Anybody notice any schools whose training he didn't like?

"How teams trained was an important factor for Mesenbrink in narrowing down his list. The balance between live wrestling and focusing on technique is important to Mitchell and too much live wrestling in training, according to Mesenbrink can be dangerous. “I love wrestling every day. I love live wrestling, but not every day. I wanted to make sure I’m not getting crushed in college (by wrestling live too often).” After his conversations with coaches learning about the team's culture and training cycles, Mesenbrink’s final list consisted of Michigan, Missouri, Ohio State, and Penn State."

No doubt I’ll be watching and rooting for the Blue and White but this is starting to feel like cheating. Parity just got smothered in it’s sleep. We could end up being so dominant that the NCAA has to make some rule changes. Having said that, I hope we get Nagao too.

When MM started talking about “right fit” and canceling other trips, I thought had to be Missouri. He went there earliest, no?

What rule changes?

There have been 5 different schools win titles in 35 years I believe.

Oklahoma State is a bunch of frat boys and Lloyd and Harry are running stuff like it’s 1993 in Iowa City. Not Penn State’s fault no one else can get their crap together.

It's cheating to contact a kid in the portal, invite him to an official visit and then offer him a scholarship?

Geez ... Is there any risk that other schools will just give up, and cancel their programs.
Nagao might push them over the brink.

I am aware from this forum that only 5 teams have won for a long period of time. No, I don’t think we are cheating. The fun of watching sports is not knowing what’s gonna happen for certain. That’s why the stands empty early in various sports when it’s a blowout. Now all there will be to look forward to is individual match ups which is good enough for me but it is also fun to see teams challenge us occasionally too.

Tom Brands (with Terry as his main assistant) is the second most successful NCAA wrestling coach of the last 15 years or so. But you don't think he's a good coach?
Historically, Brands own the lower weights. Cael owns the remaining weights. Nagao goes Iowa and trains with Lee and Disanto.

Well they got Spencer who was pretty much a guaranteed 4 time champion and they managed 3 titles.
The got Real Woods who was the 141 pound favorite and they developed him into a solid finalist and runner-up.
They brought in 3 time AA Eierman who was gonna win 2 titles and they developed him into a one time finalist, runner-up.
you named about 4 lol only one 1 team title with them didn't really do much to win a team title and they wont for a while!

And yet every dynasty in every sport grows it. Tiger Woods. Jordan’s Bulls. Ruth’s Yankees. UConn WBB.

I don't care if it feels like cheating. I want PSU to bury the field this year and every year.
I still think you need to have a party, invite tullfan and Murin, ask him to bring Spencer. Maybe we can get the scoop on Cael cornering him in the tunnel and the recruiting spiel Cael gave him.
I can get us a band to play. They are all in their 60s, but can play the shit out of their assorted instruments.

This depends on how far back you go for "historically."

If you go back 10 years:
- Iowa 5 (Lee 3, Ramos 1, Clark 1)
- Penn State 5 (RBY 2, Lee 2, Nico 1)
- Ohio State 5 (Stieber 4, Tomasello 1)
- Cornell 4 (Garrett 1, Yianni 2 at 141, Arujau 1)

That's not exactly owning the lower weights.

Go back any further, and Nagao was in elementary school.

Cut it off at 133, and it's a better argument: Iowa 5, PSU 3, anOSU 3, Cornell 2. But Nagao would also train with the 141s, of which none have won at Iowa in over 10 years.

By their definition, owning the lower weights are AAs not champions. Sometimes you just have to lower your standards to level the playing field.

I hear you. I really do.

Still, this isn’t going to last forever. It’s just not. There will almost certainly be a time where we wish it was this good again. So enjoy that, live it up. Pray like heck that day is later rather than sooner.
