Moorhead is back for 2017

Not a canidate for Temple and said he will be back for 2017. Confirmed by Pat Forde on twitter.
Positions left out there not so tempting...check
Return nearly your entire unit intact...check
Freshman talent influx...check
Schedule with big games at home (UM, sPitt, and Neb)....two back to back biggies on the road(O$u, Iowa)....push

This year has shown you need to win your OOC games and go AT WORST 8-1 in conference to have a chance at the CFP. If we can duplicate or even trump (sorry) this years' success, JoeMo's stock will soar and quite possibly he'll have his choice of top programs.
Glad he's with us for now; hope Franklin assigned him an understudy for his eventual departure.

From Footballscoop below. Interesting wording and not what Forde had tweeted. Regardless, glad he is coming back.

Pat Forde is reporting that Moorhead will not get the Temple job and will return to Penn State as offensive coordinator.

So not used to this even being a topic at PSU.

May as well just face the reality of being a top football program nowadays.

Wait, I thought he was staying? Why all the doom and gloom?

As I said, Matt Canada is getting a long look for the Temple position.

Look for a meltdown in the Lair soon. They were so sure he was gone. The can't wait for him to be gone. They are scared to death of him staying.

Good for PSU and Moorhead. After another year or two he will be in line for something way better than Temple.

Next year he gets...

Polk back
Bowers back, Dalton coming off RS
Gellerstedt, Fries, Menet coming off RS

Didn't realize that JoMo interviewed for the Purdue job...gonna be tough keeping him around. I hope they have someone on staff who is absorbing his playbook and style....it'd be nice to keep what he started going when he ultimately leaves.

He's back for 2017, let's hold off on the freakouts for now.

A PU blogger/beat writer said "JoMo talked w Purdue while he was in Indy"......
Which may very well be - literally - true

But, when you plug in your "thinker":

PSU headed out to Indy Friday afternoon
PSU played Wisconsin Saturday

In between, PSU:

Settled into their hotel
Maybe had a "walk-through" at the IndyDome (not sure if they did or not, but CJF has done that before)
Had dinner as a team, had final position group "skull sessions" and walk throughs
Met as a staff to coordinate game day and last minute game day issues
Met with the position groups/team/as a staff pre-game

If JoMo "talked with" Purdue......it's unlikely its was anything more than:

Purdue AD - "You know we have a job open, we think highly of you and might be interested in talking"
JoMo - "Sure....I appreciate that"
Purdue - "How should we get in contact? Who's your agent?"
JoMo - "Yeah, I'm kinda busy this weekend :), but you can get in touch with my 10%er at 555-123-4567. Look forward to hearing from you"
Purdue AD - "Thanks, same here"

And a day or two later, as things turn out, Purdue hired the W Kentucky guy (was it WKU? I'm not 100% sure)

IF Moorhead interviewed elsewhere (PU, Temple) I think he did it for two reasons:

1) To keep his name "in the hat"
2) To "practice interview" for a P5 HC position at the end of next season.

I don't think there was any serious interest by JoeMo in any available opening this year.

Our building has just poured it's foundation. Why would our architect create it and then abandon it until the penthouse has been reached?

Because that's how things work in college football these days. He obviously wants to be a head coach again and will have big time programs offering him a job next year when this offense produces again.

That is precisely why we will have him for another year so his resume can grow even more.

The other thought is that just maybe, he loves being at Penn State and wants to win a national championship. I'll go with that one.

Any way JoMO and CJF can trade positions.. that way, its a win-win. JoMo gets his head coaching gig and we get to keep both him and CJF.. ;):D

Notice that CJF's recent hires wisely have coordinator experience. Limegrover was a OC. Tim Banks was a DC, and I believe he's co-DC this year for us.

Yes!

Offense can be even better; I look for Moorhead to expand the play book and Trace being even better at making adjustments.

Man plans and God laughs. I learned the hard way. I am enjoying the unexpected ride all the way to Pasadena. It is fair to be a great deal more optimistic going into next year than heading into this past season. I would caution against becoming jaded so quickly. Next year's schedule is extremely challenging and a repeat of 11-2 is going to be difficult.
Moorhead, is no different than any other coach today. He will do what is best for himself and his family when decisions need to be made.
It wasn't long ago that so many thought Bill O'Brien had the only recipe for ice here
Let's not forget we are the same fan base that includes many who derided Joe for staying too long. We will now experience what all other universities have for decades...the rent a coach. When JoeMo leaves my guess is that several who stay have a sound understanding of the offense and as long as it meshes with good personnel, things will be fine.
We have a great staff here. I hope we can keep Franklin for a long time. He will attract good people. But, HC's have to be able to point to the coaching tree they have created. Its a double edged sword. The program's success will not hinge on one assistant coach. Schemes and coaching are important no doubt. But it is even more about talent. You just can't polish mud.

I don't know what kind of offense that Limegrower ran at Minnesota, but he's a great offensive line coach, and has stated that being the OC took away from that for him, as there just wasn't enough time to do both jobs properly. If, BIG IF, he were to replace Moorhead someday, we'd have to hire another OL coach, I'd guess.

We have a very top-heavy experienced staff right now. Some of these guys are going to move up in the world in the near term, and the better the team does, the more likely it is that we lose them. Success is a double-edged sword.
