More Franklin to USC conjecture (link)

I hadn't thought of the kid angle, but I'd rather have my kids grow up in State College, or any of about 100 other decent college towns, than LA.
The operative words there are "I'd rather" and the words that would actually matter are "James would rather" and you and I don't know which James would rather.

I don't think PSU fans should sweat whether CJF may leave. PSU is a great place to be a coach and the fans should just focus on keeping it that way and not worry about the potential whims of any given coach. If CJF leaves PSU then there will be great coaches lining up to take his place. It makes us look needy to worry about it so much. PSU is way more than any one person.
Ask Miami. Ask FSU. Ask Nebraska. Ask USC. All great places to coach as well and how’s that working out for them?

I believe Franklin when he says that to be the first African-American coach to win a Natl Championship is a big motivator for him. So does USC or LSU offer him a better chance than PSU in the next 4 years? I don't know enough about their rosters to make a judgement in that regard, but LSU has been pulling in top 5 classes for the past 3 years. I could see him going to LSU if the money is significantly better than what PSU can offer. Don't think he goes to USC where he has to start from almost zero.

All of that said....he hasn't even come close to shutting any of this down. Our starting QB and WR are signing autographs for $40 each....OSU's HS QB just signed a million dollar deal. There are some reasons that PSU faithful are afraid to admit or see. It doesn't mean he will go, but NIL money in LA versus central PA? Again I don't want him to go, but Jimbo came out with an emphatic shut down of the LSU job. James = no comment...leverage or not, it loses it's luster when you play the same card every year.
Do we really know what the OSU QB has received? I would not be surprised if it isn’t smoke and mirrors and it depends on his performance.

Maybe USC will decide that Chucky has cooled off enough so that they can hire him?

He can’t get through the B1G and Ohio State. PSU missed its chance in 2017 and 2018 to swing the scales and blew it. McSorley could have been 3-0 vs. the Bucks. Those two O$U losses then cost them games vs. MSU.

Then they could of done it in 2019 but the Minnesota loss lingered and Clifford went down. And he can’t win the big one at big house. Last year was his only win in Ann Arbor.

He can’t get through the B1G with just 1 loss.

At LSU he wouldn’t be able to get through Bama and Georgia. At USC he would win pretty quickly.

If he is leaving then it’s USC.

PSU needs to retain him at all cost! Our 2022 class is going to one of the best we’ve ever seen. We lose Franklin, we lose the class. We start all over again. It will be another 3/4 year setback.

We have seen evidence of MY's offensive philosophy. I guess that's all anyone needs to know to be a HC at a major university. LOL LOL LOL LOL fanboys
Please tell us when the last time PSU football was elite. Your memory must have skipped over the last 30 years. And if 42 wins in four years is mediocre, sign me up for that every year.
60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2 nice runs starting in 2005…who else can claim this level of sustained excellence? Very few.

Wonder who the coach was? Coincidence?

I read an article about why jimbo should stay at A&M and the writer acts like he shouldnt ever want to win another title since he has one at another school which doesnt make lot of sense!!

I think if he were going to leave, the end of last season made more sense. 4-5 Covid year. Two first round draft picks gone. Probable 1/2 round RB medically retired. Yurcich could have been hired wherever he went as well.

Helton's seat was hot last year. EdO's as well. They weren't officially open, but I'm sure JFs agent could have let it be known "if your job comes open, I am interested."

LSU job is toxic IMO. You are going to have to beat Bama in your first 3 years and lose no more than 2 games, if not make the playoff, to keep them happy. Put them off. Wait on Saban to retire. It will be open again in 3 years paying $10+ million a year.

USC is the better pick. Outside of utter failure, you would get 5-6 years I'm sure. They might be happy to get to 9-10 wins a year and it's definitely easier there than in the Big 10 East or SEC West. Recruiting is fertile, but it's not going to be easy fighting Bama, UGA, and Clemson for the top 15. Oregon has its inroads as well as OSU and ND.

Its interesting to read posts from people denigrate another place, yet get so offended when someone does the same to some place they like.

Just hypocrites.
You mean like those who denigrate Pittsburgh?

Is he going to out strategize Saban (who gets Top 3 classes every year)? Love CJF, but he is working his way up to D’Antonio level in that regard.

Yet zero NC’s and only three conference championships in 18 years once that coach joined the Big. Let’s keep the comparisons on the same playing field. PSU has not been an elite program since joining the Big, but Franklin gets bashed for not being elite.

just another fan remembering a history that we did not have

I don’t doubt it. I do know our actual starting QB and AA WR were signing autographs.

It’s a 3-4 year setback for Franklin too. I dont think he leaves if that class is still in tact

He’d rebuild USC overnight. He’d have them at 10 wins plus by year 2. Not a tough schedule. Recruiting would be insanely easy at USC. Plus coaches can now rebuild a team thru the portal IN 2 years. MSU is a perfect example.

It certainly wouldn't be a long rebuild at USC or LSU but the key piece you need to have in place to win a MNC is the QB. I know he's never taken a snap but it feels like he could have that guy in Allar. If he moves now to another job there's no guarantee he can just grab another high ceiling QB like that. If we didn't have the recruiting class we have now I'd certainly be more concerned about Franklin jumping this off-season. As it stands now though there's good reason to believe he is closer to winning big here that starting over somewhere else.

Side note that I haven't seen people talking about...I'd really hate to lose Galt too if there's a coaching change. People always talk about just plugging in another head coach and being fine but you have to replace almost the entire staff and we've got a lot of good ones right now.
