Morelli starter this weekend

We know he has the defense. Let's hope he blows us away with an improved offense like Mouse did early last season.

Nope. In football and basketball it's done by percentage of plays/snaps I believe

Medical Hardship Requirements
To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:

  • The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
  • The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
  • The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
  • The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.

Sure thought ANY attached competition removed the RS, every sport.

Well, yes, but it can be put back on for medical reasons ... Logan Stieber, Kaid Brock ...

Hey guys, not talking about the Hardship Waiver. No one (or very few) take the boredom of reading the NCAA Rulebook to the level I do :).

I was trying to understand those comments that stated a football player is allowed a certain number of snaps, or a % of snaps before it's considered a season of competition. Forget about the Hardship Waiver, or what most call a Medical Redshirt.

I'd like CS to post the actual rule that states a football player can play even one snap in a game, and not have that season count as one of his 4. Might be there, I can't find it. All I can find is

12.8.3 Criteria for Determining Season of Competition.

12.8.3.1 Minimum Amount of Competition. Any competition, regardless of time, during a season in an intercollegiate sport shall be counted as a season of competition in that sport, except as provided in Bylaws 12.8.3.1.1, 12.8.3.1.2, 12.8.3.1.3 and 12.8.3.1.4. This provision is applicable to intercollegiate athletics competition conducted by a two-year or four-year collegiate institution at the varsity or subvarsity level.

Not what I'm talking about. See previous post.

RoarLions1 is correct(as usual). Once a football player steps foot on the field it removes any chance of redshirting that season, same as wrestling. Getting injured is a completely different scenario. And in football it is not the number of snaps, if you play one snap, it counts as a game.

Lol and IrishinGA is correct, posted about the same time

Roar - No athlete can play 1 play and get a redshirt without a season ending injury. Does not matter the sport.
Gee...thanks...have I said something different than that? Waiting for those that said it wasn't that way.

Well considering you decided to not specify until after that you weren't referring to a medical redshirt, you can keep your haughtiness to yourself.

Whoa, CS...I'm always looking to learn more...thought I was missing something. Here's the post that started this whole thing. Doesn't sound like a reference to a Hardship Waiver (Medical Redshirt) to me... maybe it is, and I missed it. If I did, that's on me.

I don't know where all this talk about medical redshirts is coming from, but while we are on the subject, any chance Cassar could receive a 6th year if he sits this year? Or would his withdrawal from school last year complicate things?

And if that's not confusing enough, the PSU roster has him listed as a RS Freshman.

... Apparently Shak doesn't tighten up in practice, but gasses under the lights. Possibly an anxiety thing?
... I would tend to believe if gassing is not a room issue, but an under the lights issue the fix is two fold. Tighter weight control and extra conditioning,
Since there are no weigh-ins at most practices, a tough cut could still cause gassing at competition and not at practice. Does anyone remember whether Shakur ever gassed in the second day of a tournament? (I ask because IMAR seemed stronger on second days, and the consensus conclusion seemed to be that weigh-ins weakened him on first days and at dual meets.)

There are still weigh-ins for multiple day tournaments. What you are probably remembering is BIGs last season where IMar didn't look good on the first day. He still had to weigh-in on Sunday (with a 1 pound allowance) but because he made the finals he weighed in early in the AM and didn't wrestle until much later in the day. Same thing happens at NCAAs if you make the finals. Only time last year Rasheed wrestled the 2nd day was at the Scuffle where I believe he went 1-1 in the consys.

Thank you! That explains it. So my second-day question does not actually help, since the second-day ease applies especially to people who get to wrestle late on the second day, and Shakur was not one of those people.
