Agreed. Lost one game in his career, and came back to win the biggest of all games.

I’d prefer to be spoon fed.Probably had more to do with the dark years than any other single person. Do your own research.
Tony hunt. I can’t recall what year, but the one game vs Purdue... I can’t remember a running back ever running over would be tacklers like that.
McCoo was a good back on some lousy teams...not sure how you can arrive at the conclusion that he is the main culprit for an entire era.Probably had more to do with the dark years than any other single person. Do your own research.
*spelling correction: "Hartenstine" ... Even his fellow teammates were intimidated by Hartenstine... both on and off the field. One late night I was admiring a Norton Comando parked out front of the Cattle Car, all of a sudden a huge shadow blocked out the street light and I turned to see Mike leering at me. Immediately I plead innocence of not touching the bike, and to my surprise, he didn't kill me - probably because his cute little girlfriend was with him.And how about Mike Hartenstein? But how many times is MH mentioned as one of the best at PSU.....

There’s a story about him destroying a guy’s VW with forearm shots.*spelling correction: "Hartenstine" ... Even his fellow teammates were intimidated by Hartenstine... both on and off the field. Living in West Halls, Mike parked his bike in the lot behind my frat but was not a member, nor really even a friend of anyone in the house. He just parked it there... At one of the house meetings that Fall, the subject of Mike parking his bike in our lot became a hot topic as most agreed that we shouldn't bear the liability risk should something happen to the bike. So it was voted that someone should ask Mike to park his bike elsewhere and we looked upon one of the football-playing members of the frat to present Mike with the "cease & desist" order. Needless to say, the Norton remained parked in our lot for the rest of the year as NOBODY had the guts to confront Mike about the parking situation. He was a very scary person.
So I agree... It is somewhat bewildering that Mike doesn't receive the fan respect he used to gain in person, back in the day! Out of sight out of mind, I suppose.
Good list but I wouldn’t have Mills Hamilton or Wartman on an underrated list.
BwI consistently overrated Mills
Hamilton got lots of press.
And to be blunt, Wartman didn’t do much
Royster. For a guy with all the records he’s probably at or near the bottom of any ‘greatest’ Penn State RB list.

Disagree on Mills. Mills was probably the only saving grace to a putrid Offensively challenged PSU team during the dark years. (except for LJ in '02).
He rarely had any decent Wr's.
He was a very good QB until his shoulder and arm were mangled in the Wiscy game. IMHO he was never the same.
The guy is probably insinuating some off the field stuff, but is too big a pussy to actually state any specifics.Could you elaborate please because I was here and going to the games then and don't recall that at all. There was one person, more than anyone, responsible for the Dark Years and it wasn't a player.
He had Bryant Johnson too IIRC.

I have.Who can forget Lincoln Lippencott lll from Sullivan's Island South Carolina??
Yep remember almost all of them.
Horace Dodd transferred to BC and then became a Rapper. Not sure what he's doing now.
Gino Capone was a fav. whipping boy.
Deryck Toles could have been very good but didn't he have some sort of odd disease?
Better yet, that was our ENTIRE. 1999. RECRUITING. CLASS.
Interesting Dodd is now an actor and has been in a few things.
Looks like he's getting started and doing pretty well.
Good for him.

I saw Mike at the District XI track meet while in HS, he won the Shot put, Discus, and came in third, wait for it, in the High Jump!! I think he jumped like 6'3 and as a 230# HS I thought that was pretty good.*spelling correction: "Hartenstine" ... The most underrated Penn Stater of all time is Franco Harris. He was mostly utilized as a blocker for Lydell Mitchell. However, the Steelers did not underrate him as they selected him 13th overall in the 1972. The rest is history.I’ll throw out a few as a 35 year old
