Most underrated show of all time

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Silly enough for the kiddos and full of cultural references of its time for the adults. Not to mention the puns and double-entendres.

A thinking man’s cartoon.
This ^^^^. Very thoughtful comedy. Can't get enough of Natasha saying "Moose and Squirrel.

Also love Spongebob Squarepants for being so unique and creative. A lot of the humor passes right over the heads of the kiddos. .

Freaks and Geeks
Deadwood

Freaks and Geeks for sure, but only by the 'award' community. It was basically an incubator for a whole generation of comedic performers (Seth Rogen, Linda Cardellini, Jason Segel, Martin Starr, Lizzy Caplan, etc.). It's held up as a groundbreaking show by most critics.

Deadwood isn't underrated IMO - it received several award nominations and wins, and it was lauded by critics and fans alike during it's super short run. I think if it were airing today, HBO would have let it run longer. Again, another show with a bounty of amazing talent (Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker, John Hawkes, etc.).

A truly underrated show IMO is one that had/has a die hard community, is well received by critics, but lacks awards or ratings numbers and was likely cut short. For me, Halt and Catch Fire, Justified, and something like Pushing Daisies would qualify (noting the former two had solid runs and endings).

These may fall under guilty pleasures, but I always liked The Highlander series and Silk Stockings.

This. I was reading a prominent TV critic not long ago and he said the best show of 2018 was Justified - because he watched the entire series again. It only got 1 Emmy and maybe 3 total nominations. Really underrated and everyone who watches it loves it.
Taxi, great cast, underrated at the time. Reverend Jim, gives Kramer run for best comedic side kick. Louie DePalma, Nardo and all the rest.

I was looking at them as two excellent shows that were cancelled. I love Justified, but it ran for multiple seasons. Freaks and Geeks ran for one season and Deadwood got cancelled after four (I believe). I don’t see a show that has run seven or more seasons and had an ending as being underrated. I guess it just comes down to how you measure what underrated is.

Howdy Doody
The Life of Riley
TV Quarterbacks
The Honeymooners

Pushing Daisies was awesome and if there is a show that needs re-booting its that one.

The White Shadow

Tales of The Gold Monkey
Great call on White Shadow. I recall an episode where a friend was trying to get him to quit and join his staff as an NBA assistant. Of course, it was the Lakers with the Laker girls, private jets and six times the money. As he was about to take the job, one of the players gets shot and killed on the mean streets of east LA. After the funeral, driving home, he sees the kid's 10 year old brother shooting hoops all by himself. Shadow stops and talks to the kid. The kid says he can't wait to play for the high school coach. Coach asks why playing ball means so much to the kid. And the kid says that it is his escape from the problems of East LA. All he has to do is put the ball in the hoop. It is a singular effort backed by the team that fills in as his second family. The kid says his dead brother's greatest joy was playing HS ball and that this is what keeps these kids on the strait and narrow: They don't want to lose the opportunity to play for this guy. Wow, just tears. One of the great TV episodes of any TV show I've ever seen. Of course, white shadow stays and serves the higher calling. Really underscores the value of sports for kids and promotes a better understanding of society today.

Excellent call. I have the box set from back before streaming and Netflix were available.
Sports Night was very good and a show I don't even know that most people are aware of.

In terms of older (possibly cheesy) shows, I really liked The Black Sheep Squadron from the late 70s, a dramatized version of a real WW2 fighter squadron the Pacific, starring James Conrad.

Kevin Hooks, (Morris Thorpe) has gone on to do a lot of directing and producing.
Prison Break, Lincoln Heights (which should probably be listed as underrated), Madiba, 911, The Orville, Preacher, Agents of Shield, Scorpion, Castle, Person of Interest, The Good Wife, Bones, Super Natural, 24, Lost, Soul Food, ER....
Some really good stuff in there.

Wow...had no idea.

Not to get political, but what an awesome idea for a remake. you get a conservative white guy coaching a predominantly black, inner-city team. You stay true to the original show's format. You sprinkle in the progressive hollywood soap box stuff (to get the show funded) then add in how a conservative white guy learns, adjusts, realizes his privilege. At the same time, he modifies and adopts his conservative concepts to serve the kids and the community. He comes their way, they come his. And, together, the two ideologies create a better understanding and place for all.

Probably way too radicle.
