Mount Rushmore of comedic movies since 1970?

For those who like golf, Caddyshack didn't miss much...

I am sorry but I cannot support anything that Bill Murray does. "Separate the art from the artist" does not work for me. Will not recognize anything with Woody Allen, and will not recognize or support anything with Bill Murray.

And I was one of the biggest Bill Murray fans in the world, until I took a look at those court dockets.

Do you mean Cosby?

Some you missed: Bull Durham, Better of Dead, Johnny Dangerously, Talladega Nights (the grace seen is unreal), Back to School, Real Genius

Remember the knight at the castle who wouldn't let the King of the Britons enter: "I fart in your general direction!" And of course the Knights who say Neat!

I don't think any of those knights were PSU alumni. So they're actually The Knights Who Say Ni!

Animal House get its own mountain

Then

Spaceballs
Fletch
Johnny Dangerously
Christmas Vacation
And Dumb and Dumber

I love anything with Leslie Mann in it, because there is nothing better than a Goyem who married power, to make it big in the movie business, lmao.

The thread about the Dudley Moore movie, Arthur, got me reminiscing a little.... My two buddies and I used to quote the iconic lines from the great comedic movies from the 70's and 80's when we hung out or had some beers back in the day. We were all in agreement that Stripes, Caddy Shack, and Animal House were all on mount rushmore. My buddies thought that Arthur also deserved to be there as well, but I didn't think it was quite that deserving. It's a funny movie, don't get me wrong, but I'd put Airplane, Blazing Saddles, The Big Lebowski, Monty Pythons Holy Grail, Ghostbusters, and others as funnier movies in the 1970's and 80's.

From the 90's on through today, we have a bunch of other seriously funny movies: Something About Mary, 40 Year Old Virgin, Anchor Man, The Hangover.

What would be your "mount rushmore" of movie comedies since 1970? It's up to you to determine how many movies to include, and where the list drops off to the second tier.

I forgot to mention Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore. Great movie...and there are very few great funny movies.

Comedies more than any other genre generally requires you to have been of age at the time they were released to really appreciate them. Dramas don't suffer nearly as much in that regard. For instance, despite being released before I was born, Godfather 1 and 2 are my favorite movies. But Animal House, Caddyshack, Monty Python, everything by Mel Brooks, et al...just good, solid comedies to me, not incredible. I fully appreciate them for what they did for the genre, and the fact that they're watchable at all 30-40 years later speaks volumes of their quality.

That said, and understanding it's only because of the era in which I was born:

Dumb & Dumber
Office Space
Old School
Role Models (I'm sure I'll be alone here...I just completely love it from start to finish)

Honorable Mentions: Anchorman, Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me (took spoofing a genre to a different level IMO), Superbad, 40 Year Old Virgin, Tropic Thunder, The Big Lebowski, Kingpin.

Borat would definitely make the list, but it's such a different animal I didnt find it fair to include.

You may want to check page 1. I mentioned Role Models. And for those who aren't familiar with the movie, here is a clip:

As for Borat (which also made my list), why would you not include it?

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates...when I'm drinking it's a must. I'm a huge Adam Devine fan

My son is 21 and we started watching 80's movies when he turned 16. Caddyshack is his favorite movie of all time and he quotes lines from it all the time. Some comedies are timeless.

Ferries bueller is right up there with great quotes all day long.

Airplane!
Animal House
Anchorman
Holy Grail

Kind of hurts my feelings to keep Naked Gun off of there but there is not any more room.
