Munchak goes to Denver

Not sure his true motive, but read he has children/grand children in Denver.

He said publicly that was why he was interested when interviewing for the HC job. I don't think any of us were thinking he'd make a lateral move at the time, but the reasoning still makes sense

I'd love to live out there, should have established my life in the west before I put down roots here. We hunt in Colorado frequently [going this year] and I love it out there.

Share boilo recipes for the holidays?
More like Old Forge pizza and wings at Kelly's. Now with Kubiak out as OC, look for Elway to look at Scranton's Bill Lazor for the job. It would be an All Heyna coaching trifecta.

Nice! Well good luck! I'm going to have a house for sale here in Boulder in early February -- Just in time for you and Mike Munchak to get in a bidding war over it! :)

I doubt I'll move...I mean, how can you beat Cleveland? Regardless, looks crazy expensive out there. My (potential) new boss told me he lives in Superior CO. A quick look and seems all of the nice places are $1m and north. But seems they like a LOT of square footage (4,500+).

BBG....who do you hunt with in Colo? Outfitters? Looking to book a hunt...

We don't hunt with an outfitter, too rich for my blood and not necessary. We rent a cabin from a guy who has a small ranch and adjoining public land. A good way to research trespass fee hunts is to access the Chamber of Commerce websites of various towns in the west. Craig, Colorado is a good example, but those who advertise tend to be more expensive than those who don't. Tresspass hunts are still cheaper than outfitters, but it depends on what you want. If what you want is a high country horseback hunt, then an outfitter is required. Generally, mule deer are a lower country hunt with more elk in the high country. Foothills can be a nice mix.

We hunt both species in the foothills, sage and oak brush at about 7000 feet. We've been averaging 1 bull out of 3 guys and about 90% on mulies. The cost of the whole trip averages about $2500-2800/man. NR licenses make up $1000 of that.

Nice! You drive out or fly? How long do you hunt?

What a cluster in Pittsburgh. Munchak is probably the best line coach in football and he leaves for a lateral position?

We drive [The drive sucks.] because it costs a fortune to ship meat home. You can fly and rent a truck for not that much more money, but you'd have to donate the meat. We hunt 7 days plus 2 days each way for the drive. I love hunting out there. We go 3rd season the 1st week of Nov. Bull elk licenses are OTC in most units, but deer are a draw. Preference points can be a factor here. It's a bit complicated, but all the info is on the Co. DPW website.

Good for him. Wish JF would have invited him up for a pep talk to the OL or sent his coach to pick up some pointers. One if the best if not best OL coach in the country.
well here's a tape of him working with his guys, maybe that would be good enough!!!

“Spending more time with the family” is usually what coaches say when they just got fired.

But for new Broncos offensive line coach Mike Munchak, it was the motivating factor to leave Pittsburgh and move to Denver.

Munchak told Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the chance to get closer to his daughter’s family was the reason he left the Steelers after five years.

“As my career shows, when I get somewhere, I stay there,’’ Munchak said. “When this opportunity came up to work in a city with my daughter, her husband, my granddaughter and my other daughter not far away in L.A., that’s what we wanted.

“I’m not 30 or 40 years old anymore. I’m 58 and different things become important as you age.”

Munchak interviewed for the Broncos head coaching vacancy, but they picked Vic Fangio for that job. And when guys leave for lateral moves, there’s always a suspicion that something’s up at the old place.

“It was a family decision all the way,” he said. “This was all about family from the beginning. If my daughter lived here, I wouldn’t have taken any head coaching interviews. I’d rather be a line coach here than a head coach anywhere else, other than family.”

Going to work for the Steelers gave him a chance to get closer to his hometown of Scranton, so he’s done this before, and having a chance to be near his kids makes it easier to accept working for a guy you were competing against for a job.
