It's been a couple decades since I've watched an NBA game. Today I came across a Bleacher Report article about the draft which included the below photo. I appears as thought the ball is in play. Doesn't the photo show a textbook example of traveling? Maybe it was called or maybe it wasn't, I don't know. Is such a move generally overlooked in the NBA?? The guy looks like a running back who has the ball tucked away while making an end run.

You get 2 steps. I see zero steps in your photo.

Traveling could be detected from a video but not from a photo.

I agree about the limitations of a still photo but as a kid I was told if your hand doesn't stay on top of the ball and/or if you tuck the ball, it's traveling regardless of how any steps are taken. Oh well, not a big deal. Just wondering.

Your hand has to be on top of the ball to dribble, doesn't matter where it is after you pick up your dribble.

Guys in the nba pick up their dribble at the 3 point line, tuck the ball away like a running back, take 3 steps toward the hoop and use the off hand to push the defender away and get a shot off. It’s a staple of the game now.

It was 3rd and 1, the Wolves needed to pick up a tough yard. Secure the ball!!

It's called "gathering" the ball. You are allowed two steps after you gain control of, or "gather", the ball. You can tuck the ball under your arm, palm it with one hand, scoop it up with either hand, grab it with two hands, hold it against your body, etc. basically do almost anything you want to gain control. Once that control is gained, then you can take two steps.

Here's James Harden "gathering" the ball with two hands.

I think there was a traveling call actually made in an NBA game back in March, but that might have been March of last year.
