PSU is quietly playing really high level defense. Even if they give up some offensive rebounds and aren't the most athletic team, as a unit they rotate and really work to not give up easy shots.

They played excellent defense throughout the B1G tournament. That's been a big area of improvement/growth during the season. I actually read one "analysis" early this week (a couple of sentences on each team) that actually said that PSU was weak on defense - boy was that 'analyst' in for a surprise.

the less they know about you the better. they just write you off for no reason, and it reduces the pressure due to less hype

when i have watched actual coaches talk about us, they seem to feel like very few teams have faced anyone who plays like Pickett. not that he is superior to the best players on the top teams, but that it is so different that we cause problems

Shrewsberry perhaps "saw" it. That makes him special too. It makes me smile inside that Pickett wears Penn State to exert his unique style. Time will tell if all the members of the team have also been waiting to prove something and are each peaking as they gel together at the right moment. That's usually the "stuff" of champions!"

Wow. Never knew that about Buzz. It’s a shame that Virginia Tech went from good guy and Seth Greenberg to him. I remember coaching a summer league game against Dematha and Seth came to watch their team of course. We played out of our minds and after the game Seth came up to me and told me that he thought I did a great job to keep us close as we ultimately lost by two but got a great shot off from three to try and win it at the buzzer. I’ve always rooted for Seth since then.
