New AP Poll out!

Up to number 4! Even though meaningless this early, still nice to see. scUM jumps five spots despite narrowly surviving NJ University.

The B1G is going to be crazy this year. Right now I'd pick PSU as a slight favorite but the next few weeks will sort everything out. Not so sure Iowa has the offense to win it - same with the OSU defense

Honestly, we’ve all seen this happen a million times. If someone in front of you loses and you win by three touchdowns or more, you’re going to move up.

True, but no one in front of PSU lost, right? But Iowa and Oklahoma were less than impressive though, so PSU jumped both.

For some reason I thought Clemson was ahead of us. Moots my point. Carry on.

Amazing that a mediocre win against a 1AA team earned us 2 spots this week. Not sure why, but I’ll take it.
I’ve seen several people criticizing the win, but we were a 30 point favorite and were up by 35 points with 10 minutes left in the game. Really no reason to pour it on against Villanova. I know the run game was weak, but we won the game exactly the way we should have, IMO.

It's a long season and a few snaps may keep some key backups engaged and not courting the portal. Also, much mutual respect between coaching staffs.....throw in the need to stay healthy and remain vanilla.....most of us predicted this......but the fanboys deserve better....score ruined the taste of their beer.

I’m surprised Clempson fell so far. I don’t remember ever seeing a team drop 16 spots after a loss. Not saying Clemson doesn’t deserve to drop- I’m just shocked how far the flighting Dabos fell. ;)

People are criticizing the win because the offense still can not run the ball. And this week it was the offense can not run the ball against an FCS team.

Nice win on track for the season. But the glaring lack of a run game, not corrected in the least this past week, is a cause for concern that only got amplified against one of the weaker teams on the schedule.

I for one actually believe PSU is over rated for my expectation of the #4 team in the country. But maybe there is just a lack of complete teams this season and PSU's strengths, Defense and a stellar passing game, will be enough to warrant the current rating as the season goes along.

PSU
OSU
UM
MSU
MD
IA

IA has the best odds of winning the conference because they have by far the easiest path. MD is obviously a long shot but it's anybody's guess between PSU, OSU, UM, and MSU. I think the East is won by a one loss team.

Oklahoma is vastly overrated and I say that as a Sooner fan. As a couple of posters have noted, 99% of the issues sort themselves out over the course of the year and this year will be no exception. If I had a vote I'd put OU in the 12-15 range right now fully expecting at least four losses by the time December rolls around.

Reputation was all that was keeping them as high as they were in spite of what everyone saw on the field.

All this is true, but I need to explain something from an older fan's perspective - it didn't used to all come out in the wash from PSU's point of view.

I was watching this game and really thought PSU would drop in the polls, especially after the fake-scoop-and score momentarily made it 38-24. I think the system is much better now than it was before (see below) and it will come down to the Lions taking care of business against OSU and the other teams in our division and then winning the conference title.

Boomer Lion Fan Paranoia, an Explanation
People my age are irrational because we have flashbacks to 1994 when PSU dropped from #1 to #2 in one poll because Indiana scored two late touchdowns on our reserves turning 35-14 to 35-29. We also remember the age of the BCS when a bank of computers would consider margin of victory along with the records of opponents to calculate rating points. I was looking at a close game against a bad team plus losses by Ball State, Wisconsin, and possibly Auburn at the time (even a close game by them would have hurt PSU's rating back then) and thinking this will hurt the Lions. Also, as long as Notre Dame is winning, PSU is historically screwed - they always get ranked ahead of us if it is even close. This is just the history of things from circa 1970 to the onset of the playoffs.

And I’m sure the fans of those teams that pick their team apart every week see weaknesses that the outside observer doesn’t see.

Because it wasn't a mediocre win. We dominated a team that we were supposed to. Our run game was not very good, but we are passing at an outstanding pace. People can complain all they want to, but it's easier to force a running team to throw than it is to force a throwing team to run.

You can drop 8 and make it tougher, but I think we can run vs a 3 man front. The teams we have faced are playing with 6-8 in the box. They don't respect SC. Honestly, we probably don't see smaller fronts until Iowa.

Because most people don’t see a three TD win as mediocre especially when two of their TD’s came in mop up time. But things are different on this board.
I’d argue that you could beat a 1AA team by 100 points and it’d still be a mediocre win.

This decade no team has gotten the benefit of the doubt more than OU. They are frequently in the top 5, if not the top 2, without looking like they belong there.

Not for long. They are not going to feast on B12 patsies week after week.

They will rue they day they joined the SEC.
