Officials missed a Delay call...but holy 🐮🐮🐮🐮 66 Yrds
Morris Stroud rule put in place to prevent itWhy not put a tall guy near the crossbar, to jump up and block it?
4th and 19 preceding play, Lions rush 3 and go in prevent, completed for first down. Told the wife, watch, he's going to make this. Can't stand the Ravens, but Justin Tucker is the GOAT. Good guy, and never misses.Wow, I was watching a game at a bar in Fells Point, Baltimore and left to drive home before it finished. I kind of wish that I stayed there to see the reactions
Don't know if its been done since RC Owens did it back in the 60s. ....if you swat it into the field of play, my guess it is a blocked kick and a live ball? By the way I think it is illegal ...goaltendingWhy not put a tall guy near the crossbar, to jump up and block it?
It is illegal and called goaltending. From the NFL rulebook:Don't know if its been done since RC Owens did it back in the 60s. ....if you swat it into the field of play, my guess it is a blocked kick and a live ball? By the way I think it is illegal ...goaltending
Bad rule….if you can block it, why does it matter where it is blocked? Line of scrimmage vs cross bar? Change the rule!It is illegal and called goaltending. From the NFL rulebook:
RULE 12 PLAYER CONDUCT
SECTION 3 UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT
ARTICLE 1. PROHIBITED ACTS.
t) Goaltending by a defensive player leaping up to deflect a kick as it passes above the crossbar of a goalpost. The referee may award three points for a palpably unfair act (12-3-4).

Yes, that is my opinion. You think it is a good rule? Great. To each his own? It's a bad rule because you think so?!? Yeah, right.
What about the leaping rule?Bad rule….if you can block it, why does it matter where it is blocked? Line of scrimmage vs cross bar? Change the rule!
Another rule to stop players from blocking kicks. What about it?

Fair enough Art. I just recall having a tall guy try to jump up and block long FGs…actually enhanced what was already an exciting play. It's a rule. I'm more or less indifferent to it, same as I was when the NFL moved the goalposts from the goal line back to the end line.
Do you mean the one where they scale the backs of their teammate?Another rule to stop players from blocking kicks.
It was the play before the kick that the play clock expired actually. If you can watch a replay with the play clock on the kick - it sure looked like it was 0 before the ball was snapped. The announcer even counts down to one but then doesn't comment on the 0.
After I posted I thought it might have been that play. Thanks for catching it.It was the play before the kick that the play clock expired actually.
That is only called on PSU vs OSU.What about the leaping rule?

Ask basketball. Seems like a similar rule to me. Block the ball going up, not coming down.Bad rule….if you can block it, why does it matter where it is blocked? Line of scrimmage vs cross bar? Change the rule!
You obviously don’t remember…created quite a buzz when the Chiefs attempted it on a regular basis.Yeah, as about exciting as watching traffic lights change.
NFL rule allows a kick to be blocked on its downward trajectory, just not immediately before it crosses the crossbar. Goo luck to anyone trying.Ask basketball. Seems like a similar rule to me. Block the ball going up, not coming down.
That’s not really possible. If you’re not immediately in front of the crossbar, the ball will be too high for any human to block. Or the ball will fall short. The only possible exception would be on a line drive kick. Even then, good luck.NFL rule allows a kick to be blocked on its downward trajectory, just not immediately before it crosses the crossbar. What Stram’s other dumb ideas?Yeah, another one of Hank Stram's dumb ideas. He had Morris Stroud stand at the goal line to try to block a try and he never came close. So the NFL implemented the rule and moved the goal posts back to the end line and the Dapper One was relegated to shaving cream commercials.

Or even put their had on their backsDo you mean the one where they scale the backs of their teammate?

That's correct. The NFL moved the goal posts any number of times, ostensibly for safety reasons. The most recent was coincidental with the Stroud Rule.Hank Stram was not the reason the league moved the goalposts.
The last move was to reduce the number of field goals, which the league felt was hurting the game. Given the league’s history, I would argue that safety had little if nothing to do with the move. That's correct. The NFL moved the goal posts any number of times, ostensibly for safety reasons. Hank Stram and his actions were never a good reason to do anything.

Hank Stram and his actions sucked their way to a great career, so he must have done something right other than stealing your lunch money.
