Next year: Projected Line up

I can't believe that anybody believes Creedo and he has to be debunked ... but here we are.

Here are the criteria he specified bragged about on that thread:
- "A highly decorated upper weight guy,who hates his current college coach"
- "The RU Community is going to be jumping up and and wearing depends adult diapers from wetting themselves with pure happiness"
- "two years plus a redshirt."

2 yrs + a shirt means a current true SO or a JR on Olympic shirt – so let’s look at all of them at 184 and above:

184:
- Max Dean (from MI) – does not hate his coach. Please.
- Louie Deprez, Nino Bonaccorsi – both shirted, neither Midwestern (from NY and PA)
- Cameron Caffey, Jelani Embree, Marcus Coleman – all shirted

197:
- Noah Adams:, Jake Woodley -- shirted, not midwestern (from WV and PA)
- Jacob Warner - shirted
- Ben Darmstadt (from OH) – does not hate his coach
- Kendall Norfleet – shirted, from CA, and not highly decorated

HWT:
- Gable Steveson, Mason Parris – as if either would transfer to Rutgers
- Trent Hillger – shirted
- Tate Orndorff – shirted, not Midwestern (from WA) ... highly decorated?

Only one other current guy with that eligibility who is "highly decorated" -- North Carolina 197 Brandon Whitman was highly recruited out of Illinois. He has also not lived up to that billing at UNC, and who hates Coleman Scott?

Lots of other guys who are not "highly decorated" and certainly would not fill Rutgers fans will pure happiness.

So there you have it. Creedo is lying. Again.

Caveat Emptor.
with the departure of Busiello from ASU. It may open up another in Colton Shultz CO who is currently red shirting.

Schultz is not midwestern and has all 4 yrs remaining. And is there any indication of him looking to leave?

Though he would fit Cteedo's MO of constantly changing the story until something comes true and then claiming credit.

No I haven’t heard anything on Shultz although a very high profile Sr CA State champ changed his commitment to North Carolina from ASU recently. So I think Shultz is the highest credentialed Hvy from the west.

But Creedo said midwest. And he said 2 yrs remaining, not 4.

Ok State I think might be the biggest challenge going forward. They've recruited pretty damn well. They also will have Fix in 2022 and 2023.

Hate to say it but Iowa isn't going anywhere. They have a solid group of young guys and seem to fill any holes with transfers.

Plus, he got older while doing it. Sure, everybody ages, but like you said nobody has won two while aging two years, took an aged year off and won two more while aging.
I still think it is Dake though. While aging Dake also grew. Nobody ever aged and grew like Dake.
Omg. I cannot stop laughing. Well said.

We were so good 149-157 the past few years I would have thought we would have someone in the wings to take over as the prior ones. Any potential recruits that could start in 2022 at those two weights? To restart the zain , nolf , Taylor years of domination ?

Is is Bartlett someone that could jump to 149

There is a post on the RU forum indicating Needy Nicky and his father might have left RU for good. Something about a riff that stemmed from Goodale and Reece Humphreys bringing Nato in to do some training. When asked about NS in the presser, it was all Goodale to do to offer up a very terse “No comment”

See post #10 in this thread:

Nelson Brands. Now that TnT pulled Asad's shirt there is no spot for him;)

Someday, maybe, though he looks more like a 141.

Immediately, not without a shirt and maybe not even then. He's at 138 this year in HS.

It's Creedo. Nobody is transferring to Rutgers. He's making sh** up again.

Just because they're dumb enough to believe him doesn't mean we have to be.
Nick is coming back to Penn State to wrestle 125 this year. Goodall has already signed all necessary waviers and Nick will be 125 this Friday night.
NJ.com is writing an article right now accusing Cael of tampering with Rutgers' wrestling room and illegal recruiting.

I know you are joking , but has anyone ever transferred back to a school../ in any sport ?

125 - Howard
133 - RBY
141 - Lee
149 - whoever steps up between Verk, Gardner, Pipher, and Busiello
157 - Berge
165 - Lee
174 - Starocci
184 - Brooks
197 - Beard
285 - Kerkvliet or Nevills

There's an off chance Cael could try to squeeze Bartlett into the lineup. Options would be:
- Bartlett 133, RBY shirts
- Bartlett 133, RBY 141, Lee 149
- Bartlett 141, Lee 149

RBY shirting is intriguing, because he could be a 2x national champ when the weight clears out after 2021. But it would sacrifice Bartlett's shirt in order to put out a suboptimal lineup next year.

The other 2 are options only if Lee bulks up to 149 -- that decision would need to be made early in the offseason, and he is apparently very comfortable at 141. (It's also not clear that this would improve our lineup.) If we don't hear about him bulking up during summer session, then it's off the table.
Manville will be in the mix at 65...

Since it's easy enough to search this forum, I looked and found seven past posts predicting future line-ups. Not all were for the current year, some were older and for prior years. Most, all but one, were less than a year prior to the season being guessed. With what we know as fact (past PSU guys at Big Ten's), here's how close folks were, in no particular order except the order I found them; 5 of 10 weight classes guessed correctly, 7 of 10, 7 of 10, 3 of 10, 6 of 10, 7 of 10, and 5 of 10.

Maybe I missed some. Heaven knows I didn't exclude any found, nor did I bias the search in any way. I would guess (today) something like E-J has above, but wouldn't be surprised to see something else by Big Ten's 2021.

125 Howard
133 Bartlett
141 RBY
149 N. Lee
157 Busiello
165 J. Lee
174 Starocci
184 Brooks
197 Beard
285 Kirkvliet

125 Howard
133 Bartlett
141 RBY
149 N. Lee
157 Busiello
165 J. Lee
174 Starocci
184 Brooks
197 Beard
285 Kirkvliet

I like the looks of that, but so damn young

Between these 10, there will be a mere 5 total full seasons experience. 5.5 if you add Brooks

I

Intrigued by his comment about a top upper weight transferring into RU next year. Any guesses? Hopefully not Beard or Kerk...
Why would those 2 guys transfer? They both are likely starters next year and Kerk just transferred to PS.

I like the unconventional approach of redshirting Lee and RBY and then wrestling Bartlett and Howard right away. All-in for 2022

125- Howard
133- Clabaugh/Bartlett
141- Bartlett/Busiello
149- Busiello/Barraclough/Transfer

I really want to see Howard at 125, because well you know, the last few years of 125. Plus who knows how long he can make that weight - though I would like think he could go all four years. But get whatever use you can get out of him at 125!

@LemonPie Have you been keeping stats this year? If so, please send me your Google link. I dont have it saved. I'll start collecting if you havent been doing it. Lee and Hall have been ridiculous this season.

just in case you didn’t know there is a pinned thread at the top called Penn State eligibility/recruiting spreadsheet from @dicemen99 The linked Google Doc shows commitments, that helps a lot with this type of speculation. Robbie Howard is coming next year and he currently wrestles 126 for Bergen Catholic, I believe he might be Cael’s plan.
Most of this info is also on WrestleStat -- click on the Eligibility Breakdown tab on the team page.

By "most" I mean that WrestleStat only includes guys on the roster and PSU commits still in HS. Dice's spreadsheet also includes a number of HS wrestlers who have not committed to PSU.

Cornell is going to be good next year.
They will be VERY good as a tournament team.
Cornell will be boom or bust at every weight next year. Arujau, Yianni, Dean, and Darmstadt will all be very tough. It's possible that nobody else makes the podium -- lots of very good prospects but too soon for most.

They all return in 2022 and the prospects will have experience -- add Greg D, Saunders, 2 out of Foca/Ramirez/Cardenas, Fernandes ... that could be a dangerous team.

Call me crazy but... 2021 will not really be a punt year but a reswizzle to set up 2022 and beyond.

2021
125 Meredith
133 Howard (RBY RS)
141 Bartlet (Lee RS)
149 Busiello/Verk (Tranfer portal?)
157 Berge
165 J. Lee
174 Starocci
184 Manville (Brooks RS)
197 Beard
285 Kirkvliet (Seth RS)

2022
125 ((Stevo/Figs/TBD???))
133 Howard
141 RBY (Bartlett RS)
149 Lee
157 Berge/Busiello ((Van Ness RS))
165 J. Lee
174 Starocci
184 Brooks
197 Beard
285 Kirkvliet/Seth

I dont think Howard will be able to make 125, or Bartlett 133 and remain effective at this level, just a feeling so I'll go with it. Plus a little bit of wishful thinking for our next recruiting class ((x)). Facundo might still happen but the need isn't there. Obviously Howard and Bartlett RS if RBY and Lee go next year, but I think we buy two better shots at national champions in 2022 if they hold off. The same for Brooks eyeing 3 straight.

Are there any BIG 10 or NCAA rules that limit the number of times an athlete can transfer?
Yes -- NCAA limits athletes to attending 2 D1 programs. That's why a number of guys go to a lower division school as a stopgap.

That's part of what tripped up Downey going to Iowa -- he had already been at Nebraska and Iowa State.

Of course, being the NCAA, there are likely exceptions and waivers that nobody understands even after being approved or rejected.

They do? Is that a Wrestling thing? We have a 3 D1 school guy on our basketball team in Curtis Jones.
I thought the Downey thing collapsed on the weight of already having used his 5 year eligibility clock and there was no real basis for granting any more time. No way to defer an earlier year...or anything.

Isn't this Lee's junior year? If so then next year will be his senior year so no red shirt possibility in 2022 right

Jones is a grad transfer -- maybe he got a waiver for that. It's not as if the NCAA is consistent or transparent.

3rd school may not have been what ultimately sunk Downey. Captain Obvious says PD3 had many hurdles to clear.
