NFL LIVE right now showing their FINAL FOUR all college teams in the modern era....

Fascinating.

They are looking at each school and all their players since the 1960's (I believe). They are throwing out stats like total first round draft picks, most players in the NFL hall of fame, most all Americans, Super Bowl wins, etc...

They have Miami beating Ohio State and USC beating Alabama. And have USC playing Miami for all time best.

Based on OVERALL talent.

If I were to create the TOP 10 all college team:

1. Miami
2. USC
3. Alabama
4. Ohio State
5. Florida State
After this it gets tough...

6. Notre Dame
7. Nebraska
8. Penn State
9. Oklahoma
10. Meeechigan

Texas?

Anyway, worth watching the show. Still on till 4:30.

Interesting that #1 and #5 were relevant in college football only over the last 40 years or so. They each had a couple of standout players and a good team here or there prior to that time, but that's it. Both were national non-factor until late 70s / early 80s.

In the 60s, Fsu had Fred Biletnikoff and Miami had Ted Hendricks as probably their biggest stars until mid 70s or later.

I think FSU began playing football in the 50s. They had been a women's college initially, iirc.

For those two to be in the top 5 all time vs. the century+ long histories of all the others in the top 10 is either remarkable or short-sighted, imo.

Thats MY Top 5, btw, not NFL Live. Regarding FSU, from 1986 through 2000, they produced some incredible talent. Chris Weinke, Deon Sanders etc. About the only area they can't stand toe to toe with Bama or USC is OL and, of course, FG kickers. But, their defense was LOADED for those 13 years.

I missed the line where you said that this was your list.

Modern era football is generally considered to be from about the 30s-on. You stated that your list was from the 60s, but I had the 30s in mind. My too-speedy-reading errors.

The Top 10 you list is a good one for the 60s-on. I might put in Texas and swap out Michigan. Or maybe have them tied for 10th. But there aren't really any others that have been in that upper echelon consistently over the past ~60 years. LSU, Auburn, Tennessee... all had significant down seasons. Pitt... (I kid, I kid). Washington, Florida, Mich. State... all with a lot of down seasons. There really are only maybe 11 or so in that top tier since the mid-60s. Going back further, like to the 30s, a number of teams would need to be considered.

NFL Live, today, did a take on their FINAL FOUR all college teams from the 1960's till today. Per NFL LIVE, they said Ohio State, Bama, USC and Miami have had the BEST talent for 11 on offense and 11 on defense. They showed the #1 player per school at each position. They had USC winning out.

I then gave my TOP 10 (based only on memory without looking at data that NFL LIVE used)

FSU had that stocky PK who was great and later kicked for the Raiders.

Not a bad list at all. Did you forget to log out of your @sshat account and into your other @sshat account before posting or did the millennials make you do it?
