Does anyone know the plan for Nick Lee next year? Are they planning on redshirting him or does he step right in to 141 to take over for Gulibon?
Seems as though the team will be so stacked that he could easily shirt. On the other hand, maybe he wants to go as a Freshman?

Next years lineup with Lee will be in my opinion the best Cael has ever put together. You are looking at a legit possibility of 10 AAs and 5 champs. I feel dumb saying that and a huge homer but run through that lineup and you'll see for yourself how stacked it will be.
I was just thinking about that this morning. That team will be scary.

I imagine Nick Lee goes next year and he won't be your run of the mill freshman, either. While he cannot compete this year unattached for PSU since he is a HS senior, he's living in SC and training with the NLWC. Essentially, this is like a RS year for Nick Lee, although without the benefit of competing in tournaments.

And while tournaments are a big help and part of the RS process, I still think he's going to be much further ahead than if he wrestled in Indiana his senior year at the high school level.

PSU definitely has the chance to place 5 or 6 NCAA finalists next year.

8 or more AAs would be expected as long as everyone stays healthy. And the 9th & 10th AAs are a decent possibility.

Just guess here, I can see Nick going next year at 41, then taking a redshirt the following year . Berge can go 1 year at 49, then move to 57, and Nick moves to 49 after redshirt.

Nick Lee's situation is undecided at this early point in time...Cael & Co. is forward looking, for sure, but their forward view ends at St. Louie in March...plenty of time after that to work on next season.

Assuming everyone stays healthy, I just arbitrarily tossed some estimated NCAA point values on who would be in our line up, and I got ranges of 160-175.

And I was fairly conservative with a few of our wrestlers.

Iowa has the all-time record at 170.

Check this out - it's mind blowing:

125 Suriano - 20
133 Cortez - 10
141 N. Lee - 6
149 Zain - 26
157 Nolf - 26
165 Joseph - 15
174 M. Hall - 20
184 Nickal - 24
197 - MM/Cess - 10
285 - Nevills - 15

That's 172 ... and I'm being slightly conservative with some kids.

Roar will hate this thread. Lol. But fans are allowed to speculate for fun.

Unfortunately 141 will still be loaded next year.

Heil
Jack

Kolodzik
McKenna
Ashnault
Meredith

Thorn/McKee
Eierman
Hayes
Perry
Red
Yianni?
Gasca

Don't see many moving up. Bolded are the guys who would be gone if he waited a year.

Interesting stuff. The kid looks like he will be a monster and as soon as next year, if he wants.

That is scary. But you need to pay attention, Iowa has it all wrapped up next year.

Looking at next year lineup, I'd let Kade Moss go at 141.

We will win the title by 30-40+ Pts with or without Nick Lee.

Reward the senior who did everything that was expected of him.

I love the "all-star" like rosters we are building - they're fun !! - but it's nice to see the veteran program kids be rewarded for their hard work & loyalty.

That's a message that needs to stay with the program, that the hard working Kade Moss / James English / Zack Beitz kids will get their chances.

Guys. George Carpenter is 1-5 this year. 10-24 for his career. In what world would we ever want him to start? Someone was comparing him to Josh Moore? Stop this. His ceiling is Pearsall. I'm glad he turned out to be a better backup than I thought.

It's Hawkeye fan stuff.

I'm just using Carpenter as an example as a walk-on kid who works hard, practices hard, and ends up getting his shot.

That's all.

Kids like James Vollrath & Zack Beitz may be better examples to use.

Yes. The plan right now is he will be shooting for 141. We will see though...
Let's just pray and hope Hall wrestles this year and soon....Cassar is back wrestling live now and will wrestle off at 97 against Matt Mc.....Cassar is very tough....

...also interestingly...
...look who's ranked #8 at 125 kg...!

With Nick spending the year in State College, there is obviously an agreed upon plan for him. Not sure anybody but Nick and Cael know what's been agreed to.

Where is Nick Lee? I don't think he graduated and I only see Joe in the Intermat rankings.

Nick is in State College training with the NLWC (and I assume taking online classes?) but not competing in any high school matches anymore.

141 is still stacked for next season. However, I still think that he would slot in anywhere from 5th to 8th immediately at 141. Stud!

Others answered your question about where Nick is this year. As for the rankings, I like how Flo handled Nick's situation. They removed him from the rankings at his weight class, but they kept him in the P4P (currently ranked #6, behind Spencer Lee, Yianni (who is out for the season due to surgery), Daton Fix, Gable Steveson, and Vitali Arujau). FWIW, Michael Beard just entered Flo's P4P, and Willie's commentary makes it clear that it came down to Beard and Travis Wittlake as to which would take a spot in the P4P (after Austin Gomez dropped out after losing at the Clash).

For next year, once the current seniors are removed, it looks as though Gable Steveson, Gavin Teasdale, Roman Bravo-Young, Michael Beard, and Travis Wittlake will be top 5 in the P4P, though there is a lot of HS wrestling to take place between now and then, so the top 5 may be a little different than what I speculated it would be.

Hearing Teasdale may not be going to Iowa....
