Has any Iowa wrestler ever scored a takedown against Nico ?
I seem to recall Clark having similar problems.

Here ya go:

Jan 22, 2012
Nico vs. McDonough
- no TDs in regulation. It was 1-1 at the start of SV. McDonough got a TD with 2 sec left to win, 3-1

March 17, 2012, NCAA Finals
Nico vs. McDonough
- no TDs in 1st period. Each wrestler got an esc when they were on bottom. McDonough got a TD in the 3rd, and with RT won 4-1

Feb 1, 2013
Nico vs. McDonough
- no TDs in regulations, and they each had an esc in regulation. It was 1-1 headed to SV. No TDs in SV. In TB, Nico could not get out from bottom, and then McDonough got out with 4 sec left, to win 2-1 TB

Dec 21, 2013
Nico vs. Gilman
- no TDs in the 1st period. Nico got a TD off of a single leg in the 2nd. No TDs by either guy in the 3rd (after a Gilman esc), so with RT the bout ended 4-1 in Nico's favor.

March 22, 2014
Nico vs. Cory Clark, NCAA Consolation Semis
- Nico had 2 TDs in the 1st, and won 5-2

March 6, 2016
Nico vs. Gilman, B1G Semis
- no TDs in regulation, and it was 1-1 at the start of SV. No TDs in SV. Nico escaped when down in TB. Gilman escaped with about 11 sec, but immediately gave up a TD to Nico, so Nico won 4-2 TB

March 19, 2016
Nico vs. Gilman, NCAA Final
Nico had 2 TDs in regulation,
- Nico had a TD in the 1st (and a rideout). Gilman got an esc from bottom, then Nico got a TD, with Gilman getting an esc near the end of the period. Nico escaped from bottom in the 3rd, then gave up a point for a stall call, and earned a RT point, to win 6-3.

So, over the course of Nico's career, he wrestled 7 times against an Iowa wrestler. In those 7 matches, he was taken down 2 times -- both times by Matt McDonough, in Nico's true freshman year.

That's a lot of stalling says the congregation wearing black and yellow.

We were in a bar after the finals, hard to believe right? But I digress, anyway, there were a crew of Iowa fans near us and they were all talking about how they were not aggressive enough and that they recognized their own stalling tactics. One of them even said that Sorensen was the worst of them, I'm sure a lot of it was just frustration and disappointment but a little self-reflection is never a bad thing.

Goldbanger, same thing happened at B1Gs this year. I met and talked to a group of Iowa fans at our hotel who wished Iowa wrestled the way PSU wrestlers wrestled.

After I read the initial post and seeing how few takedowns Iowa kids scored against Nico I was left wondering why the Iowa kids stalled so much? I never really noticed before, but nobody wearing black and gold ever engaged Nico they all pretty much stalled looking for and expecting multiple stall calls to win.;)

"Iowa Style" - we don't need no stinking take-downs or offense of any kind to win folk matches...

FWIW - Recalling the final match, Nico was on fire off the opening whistle. He looked more intense and active than I'd recalled.

Not saying he wasn't active in other matches. Just saying it looked like he cranked it up full tilt, came out with a flurry of activity. He was not leaving anything out in his final match.

Nico poured everything he had into that match like a man on a mission, which of course he was.

LOL - He didn't want to go back to the car and face the steering wheel sign if he hadn't gone full bore in the final.
