This will upset some people but athletes at Montana St are being offered thousands of NIL dollars to endorse a political candidate.

How long before this becomes a national standard ?

This is just crazy. And sad. And disgusting,

Good grief. I just want to enjoy some sports and not have to be smacked across the head with politics during a football game. Annoying.

Maybe not worse, but another example of our nation losing it's soul.

Naa. It has been that way for generations. Doctors used to do commercials promoting cigarettes. Only thing new is now it is college athletes getting paid.

That should not be allowed. There have to be some boundaries set.

Was (is) it OK when college football coaches endorse a candidtae/party? I can recall one near and dear to the program doing it.

I'm not up to date with NIL rules. Are athletes allowed to reference their affiliation with the school/sport? Can they wear their school's uniform? I thought they weren't allowed to do that.

The reason I ask is I doubt that many Montana athletes are well known to the public so their video wouldn't have any more impact than that of an average citizen. But if they wear the team uniform and introduce themselves as Joe Smith starting safety for the Montana Grizzlies more people might take notice. Participants in non revenue sports like swimming would be even less familiar to the public.

Appears there are no rules other than the school itself cannot make payments. That’s it.

And I think if a hot chick from the swim team endorses a candidate in her uniform it just may influence which direction a lot of guys pull their lever!

honestly, I don't care. it is like selecting a billboard. These spokespeople are paid shills who have no skin in the game and, for the most part, don't care. So it is a matter of where a candidate chooses to invest in their campaign. Plus, anyone who is concerned what a kid who hasn't paid for an apartment, education, spouse and kids is foolish.

Of course it's ok for a coach-called free speech-that's different than bribing players with $ in the of nil to endorse a candidate
