Not sure if this was known, but towards the end of this interview JB says one from Cael was one of only a couple offers he got after college to train. But said he was only offered $20k so chose to stay in Nebraska for $30k.
NLWC might’ve been able to get JB after college for an extra ~$10k

Just not leaping to the OP's conclusion that Burroughs would've left Nebraska immediately out of college for the $10k difference. Especially when it was well known that he shirted in 2010 (after his JR year) to train freestyle with Manning.
Thought exercise: if he were truly a free agent, why did only Cael and Ryan call him?

To your last question, wasn’t that before RTC’s were really prevalent? He was really good coming out of college, but even then I’m not sure many would’ve predicted he’d become arguably the US freestyle GOAT.
To your earlier question, that’s why I put the “~”. I don’t think he would’ve left Nebraska for the same exact dollars. But I bet it wouldn’t have needed to be a whole lot more. He probably wasn’t extremely tied to Nebraska at that point, and while not exactly “home,” State College would’ve been a lot closer to where he grew up.
So was this a known story already? I had never heard it before.
