No Clark for Hawks

Questioning Clark's and/or Brands' guts and toughness is irrational and pretty damn shameful, IMO.

As noted, Clark is hurt. For all anyone knows, his next match against a tough opponent could be his last. Even from a spectator's perspective, I'd rather see that match in March than in January.

I mean he's competing in the biggest annual tournament in the world outside the world championships, hard to knock him for that.
Do you think Kollin Moore is anywhere near this good without facing Snyder daily?

I'll concede both of these good points. But I'll add that growing up I was taught that when you join a team, you make a commitment to show up and be there for your teammates. The other OSU kids had to be disappointed they didn't get a chance to win. If this had been Zain instead of Snyder, and PSU needed a pin from Zain in the last match to beat the Hawks, in Iowa, do you think his teammates or the fans would have been disappointed that he wasn't there? I know I would have been.

This isn't the same, but a few years ago, my son was on a local Little League baseball team. The three best players on the team were also on a travel team at the same time. The three would routinely miss the LL games if there was a conflict, leaving the rest of the kids in a bind. IMO, the point isn't which game or match was more important. The point is if you make a commitment to a team you should honor that commitment.

Btw, I'd take a loud mouth wise a$$ teammate like Gilman over Snyder. At least you know he'll be there battling every match.

For the fans of one team, some are awful concerned about what other teams do.

By the way, Penn State won last night 33-11.

+1

Our wrestlers soooo embody Cael's philosophy its almost scary. One match at a time. Always seek to improve. Don't worry about the score. Don't worry about seedings or rankings ... just wrestle hard and have fun.

I love it!

Well, you can have him, ja1339. I'll take Snyder all day, every day.

I love Gilman's wrestling style, and will enjoy seeing him wrestle at B1G's and NCAA's. That said, Iowa is a good fit, and no way in heck would I want him. Gilman and Cael would be like oil and water...and destroy the intangibles so few fans understand.

I imagine all will be forgiven if his points earn them a trophy in March

To pile onto Roar's statement: I'll take Snyder every day and twice on Sunday. He does absolutely everything right on and off the mat, and is a great example for how college athletes should conduct themselves.

And, if I'm one of his teammates: (1) I know what I'm getting with him; (2) his presence can affect the team score but has absolutely zero impact on my match -- unless I'm distracted by him; (3) I probably also have individual goals and am glad to have a coach who will let me pursue them if they're within reach.

Would you feel the same if Zain, jason and bo would show up once in a while at home meets?

Snyder is a stud, and a point machine, and the best in the world at his weight class. I'll take Snyder.

and.

and.. he's the biggest guy on the team... don't mess with him!

After the Gadsen match, I knew better than to pile on: Anyone could see that was a "DT/Bubba" moment, and that it would be the last time, or next to last time he lost.

Gilman vs Snyder comparison? Interesting

Agreed. Interesting to hear who'd one would rather have on their team.

Personally, I really like Gilman's wrestling, but that's where it stops. So I'll go with Snyder because he's a better person, more mature, respectful, and embodies what a good character should bring to the mat, both on and off. Oh, and because he's a Champion too.

These are the spots I would pick Snyder over Gilman;
- as a teamate
- as an alumni
- as an ambassador for my school
- as an ambassador for the sport

These are the spots I would pick Gilman over Snyder
- on howard stern
- in a message board flame throwing contest
- on a road trip

But thats just me, i have strange tastes.

Growing up I was taught that the football players don't join the wrestling team practices nor tournaments until after their football season ends. My teammates taught me that non-football playing wrestlers appreciate their football-playing teammates, and do not think of begrudging the football-playing teammates' their second sport of football, especially because the part-time-ness was agreed to in advance, and especially because if you force guys to choose only one sport, some would choose football over the wrestling team.

Snyder's second sport is being Olympic and World champ in freestyle. If somebody wants him to choose one sport, that idea was not learned as an American scholastic wrestler.

ok, I'll bite. Why on a road trip besides the obvious space allotment, slurping of the milk or prime rib dinners?

Turk, I don't think we're asking them to do a wrestle off here.... Who'd you rather, and why?
