This, to me, is the main reason why we lost to both OSU and Michigan. An elite level playoff team has to have at least one of these players producing in big games to have a chance to beat another elite level team. It has to be either the QB, RB or WR. These three positions are the ones that get the chunk 30+ yard plays and can score from 40+ yards away. Even with bad coaching, an elite offensive player finds a way to get 30+ yard chunk plays and into the end zone even against other elite teams.
1. QB - Drew Allar just hasn't shown he is consistently accurate 20+ yards down field to get PSU the chunk plays. His deep throws are awful.
2. RB - Allen is our best grind it out runner with good vision and cutting ability but lacks the speed to run past the defense for more than 15 yards. Singleton has to be the biggest disappointment for me this season. He just doesn't have the instincts or vision to make one cut to the outside and get big yardage. After watching the highlights from yesterday, he had some chances to do it (like Corum and Edwards) and he didn't do it. If we could combine Allen and Singleton into one RB, it would be another Saquon Barkley.
3. WR - We all know there isn't one starting WR on this team who would start for any top 5 or even 6-10 team.
