Northwestern wins first NCAA tourney game

If it wasn't for a stupid foul by Vandy with seconds to go (after they just took the lead!!o_Oo_Oo_O)- Northwestern may not have got that win.

Oh please stop with the static already. This is the first time in their history Northwestern is relevant.
So that makes it less impressive? I would say it makes it even more impressive. It's not like we're a basketball powerhouse that is having a down cycle in our program.

Lol. Caught the end - that was a good game. Feel bad for the Vandy player that got confused about the score or fouls to give and fouled up 1 with under 30 left. Fun seeing Julia Louis-Dreyfus cheering on her son. That keep's my son's bracket perfect so far - he did a little "my bracket's better than your bracket" dance - ha!

I frankly get tired of the same old stupid prattle about Chambers, etc. I read through the same crap about Franklin in the fall too. Lots of coaches on this board.
I wonder what the board would have been like if Franklin was in year six with six straight seasons of 7-5 or worse. Hmm.

Elaine's son plays for the NW basketball team? Is that right?

It is impressive but it is getting more than a little tiresome hearing about it.
We get it. Pat is not doing a good job. INMO he has next year to figure it out.

Forget about comparing to PSU for a moment, NW is a great story and at least a team that is worth rooting for from the B1G. They are the IVY league of the midwest for academics and are basking in their first ever tourney win. Good for them and I'd love to see them win more, which is unlikely.

It amazes me how many posters on here don't apply for full time coaching jobs in either football or basketball with how adamant they are than they know more than the people paid to do so. Oh wait I forgot apply to be the AD as well

I watched the last 5 or 6 minutes of that game and was pulling like hell for the Wildcats. The purists will claim that they won on a fluke (sound familiar), but they won, they survived and they get to play another game.

The scenes of their locker room with the coach getting sprayed were great. Sometimes, we forget that these are just bigger kids.

and IIRC you would have fired him after the Michigan game or was it Pitt or the first 3 quarters of the tOSU game?

No, and this is apples to oranges comparisons. Franklin hadn't gotten thru a full cycle of recruiting classes, was dealing with sanctions, etc. I did however want John Donovan fired into outer space. There were many who actually defended that guy, some people just cannot bring themselves to criticize anything Penn State.

Back to Chambers: he's been here for 7 years. We keep hearing he's recruited at a historic level for PSU and we finish near the bottom in a down year for the big ten. He has never gotten us to the freaking NIT. If he doesn't put it together next year, he should be gone. Enough with the excuses already.

I wish I could care remotely about this NW team. They are a great story. But they have to be the most boring team to watch in the Big Ten. Just so uninteresting in every sense of the word.

Bracket bragging -- 16 for 16 correctly predicted from Day 1
not many big upsets, and I had MTSU and Xavier

the bad news -- not in any pool that pays money

I went 15-1, lone loss is Vanderbilt/NW (maybe that's the source of my NW rage? Nah). My pool pays out $2500 though to the winner. I'll be sad when my bracket busts later in the tournament. :)

Good for you, royboy. I had the same two upsets (MTSU and X) but I also picked VaTech over Wiscy and VCU over St. Marys. I will take my 14/16 gladly.

I actually thought that Xavier was badly mis-seeded. They lost 6 or 7 in a row in February, but looked like they put it back together at the BigEast Tournament. They beat the snot out of the Terps in the 2nd half. I especially liked that with about 30 seconds to go, MD was trying to shoot 3s and Xavier's defenders were all out at the 3 point line. Every pass to a Terp near the three point line was met with an immediate double team. That is coaching at the end of the game

Depending on the size of the bracket, the first round might not matter so much. It's all about your final four teams surviving for as long as possible, and picking the winner. You win 31/32 in the first round but the team you picked to win gets bounced, your bracket is cooked.

Ok genius, then explain how chambers took Boston U to the dance if he's such a bad coach...

The seniors from his predecessors recruiting classes?

So do you blame...
a) The BJC?
b) The Geographic Location of PSU?
c) The Liberal Media?

for Chambers lack of success?

Pretty cool when Fitzgerald stuck his head into the locker room to offer his congratulations too!

I'm not seeing you in this board's competition. If it's not there, all bragging rights are suspended;)
I'm also not seeing brackets from the many "experts" in other PSU hoops threads

well, I'm busted.....didn't enter the local competition

I'll have to confine my bragging to the local office gang....or just wait until my favorites start biting the dust;)
