I’ll stay in the state of Illinois for the next team. It wasn’t that long ago that Northwestern looked like a raging dumpster fire. Now it looks like things are heading in the right direction in Evanston.

125 – Rivera (So)

Northwestern’s only AA last year. He had a 31-8 record in his first season as a starter and had a busy weekend in the NCAA tournament, wrestling 8 matches on his way to a 6th place finish from the 10 seed.

133 – Valdiviez (So)

Valdiviez started as a true freshman, going 20-13 on the season and 2-2 in the tournament.

141 – Thomas (Fr)

Thomas enters the lineup after a 16-6 redshirt year. He had some solid wins against qualifiers last year including AA Sa’Derian Perry. Thomas will most likely take over for Alec McKenna (Jr) who went 12-20 as the starter last year.

149 – Oster (Jr)

A 2-year starter (@149 in 2017), Oster went 13-18 last year @157 and did not qualify for the NCAA tournament.

157 – Deakin (So)

As the starter @149 last year, Deakin went 32-7 on the season and 2-2 in the tournament from the 7 seed.

165 – Sepke (So) or Byelick (Fr)

Sepke went 9-22 as a true freshman last year. Incoming freshman Erich Byelick may also be an option here.

174 – Sebastian (Sr)

Sebastian is a two-time qualifier, going 2-2 last year (28-12 season record) and 0-2 in 2017.

184 – Morland (Fr)

Morland enters the lineup after an 11-4 redshirt year. His most notable win was against NCAA qualifier, Ryan Christensen. Morland is taking over for Sliga who went 17-15 and did not qualify for the NCAA tournament last year (Sliga qualified and went 1-2 in 2017).

197 – Chakonis (Jr)

Chakonis went 15-14 in his first year as a starter last season and did not qualify for the NCAA tournament. He did have a couple of wins against NCAA qualifiers, Brunner and Eric Schultz (who he later lost to).

Heavy – Jennings (Sr)

Three-year starter and two-time qualifier (0-2 in 2018, 2-2 in 2017), Jennings returns for his last year at Northwestern. He had a 25-12 season record.

Northwestern returns all 5 of their qualifiers from last year and should be better at 141. NU should improve upon their 24th place/20 point performance from last year.
