Jake Zembiec broke his wrist on the first play of Aguinas Institute’s second game of the season as a junior.

In the time since, he’s been rated a Rivals.com 4-star, the No. 1-ranked player in New York for the Class of 2016, and the No. 8-overall pro-style quarterback, along with his verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions last November.

Zembiec’s stock hasn’t stood still, though, as he proved himself on the field during Elite 11 camps and eventually, an invitation to The Opening in Oregon last week.

Asked about the experience in Oregon, Zembiec said there was a lot packed into his time there.

“Instead of spending a lot of time in the classroom, they try to teach it on the field, so you're always moving around,” he said. “Then there's also a lot of team events and challenges and stuff.”

USA Today’s Paul Myerberg evaluated Zembiec’s performance at the camp cautiously:

“Zembiec has been fairly quiet thus far, alternating periods of impressive play with the occasional lulls of inaccuracy. But his good is, well, pretty good. And the instruction doesn't have Zembiec swimming, Dilfer said. "His bad is not a he-doesn't-get-it-bad, it's a he's-trying-too-hard bad." That can be fixed. He's going into a great situation at Penn State.”

But, Zembiec himself said the entire experience was a good one, even though going through all of the different camps and instructions this summer has been hectic at times.

“I think you just do what's being asked of you at each camp and do it how they want you to do it,” he said. “Most guys will tell you, your high school coach is right, and then once you get to college your college coach is right, and whoever is your main coach is right.”

Aquinas Institute begins its season at the Carrier Dome Kickoff Classic on Saturday, September 5, at 8 p.m. against Christian Brothers Academy.
