Ya. We beat Memphis State......or is it Memphis.......or.......oh well, it was someone no one cares about.
Glad we won, but tonight makes you realize that we don't have anywhere near the talent to compete at the level of a Clemson or top level SEC team.
You mean Clemson who barely won tonight and should have lost to UNC? You mean that Clemson team or the one that will get bitch slapped by LSU?
Wrong. They lost to teams like Pitt and Syracuse and should have lost to NC State and UNC...they aren’t winning the Big.
They have won the title 2 of the past 4 years and lost to Alabama who won the title the other 2.
Also, the 2016 Big 10 champions lost to Pitt.
Clemson would have lost 1-2 games a season for the last 5 years if they played in the division with PSU, OSU, UM,MSU. —Clemson plays 1 tough conference game a year. They were never physically tested. —They were beat up/ tested today , and sustained some injuries. Don’t think that bodes we’ll against LSU
One key to winning the title is getting into the final four. It’s pretty easy getting there when you’re in a conference where you may lose one game at the most. Take Clemson out of the ACC and put PSU, OSU, Michigan or Wiscy in there....how many games do any of them lose and if they get in the CFP, they have a chance to win it.
Exactly...PSU to the ACC...it would be a play in game against Clemson every year.
Pretty much the same deal as the B1G right now except play in against OSU and the increased strength of schedule usually allows for one loss. In the ACC a win against Clemson might not be enough to overcome one other random loss.
The CFP hasn’t been kind to undeserving teams in the playoffs (think 2015 MSU, 2016 OSU or a few of the Oklahoma teams).
This year the ACC was historically bad so some of the teams you mentioned might have made it in if they could trade places with Clemson, although if they had dropped even one game they would have been out. If they did make it in they would have suffered a similar fate to Oklahoma.
Given that the one game vs ACC this year was a 17-10 win over a Pitt team that was 4-4 in the ACC there is no way to definitively say that.
But the key is you have to get there first. Many people felt OSU in 2014 didn’t deserve to be there but they won it. You have to get there to have a chance.
We wouldn’t be anyone else’s super bowl and we still won, so there’s a pretty good chance I’m right.
Clemson is everyone in the ACCs Super Bowl at this point. Would be the same if PSU were top dog in the league.
Yet, Pitt is the only team that sees us as a rival, and Clemson has no team in the ACC that sees them as a rival/
On one level you are correct, but on another you're wrong. Yes, you do need elite QB play to get there i.e. to match the level of Clemson or top level SEC team - all other things being equal. However, you also need a bit of luck. Nobody knew that Fields was going to be this good this quickly. Few were predicting LSU would have this kind of remarkable season. Heck, they barely beat UCF (another Group 5 team "no one cared" about) in last year's Fiesta Bowl. Some folks were even saying Ed Orgeron was on the hot seat at the start of the 2019 season. Yeah, see how that turned out. Bottom line, if Clifford doesn't play better, we won't get there. Also, who knew our WR room would be in this struggle against our recruiting quality? Finally, both OSU and Michigan have recruited elite 5 star QB's on their rosters for 2020 (OSU) and 2021 (Michigan), so we could be falling even farther behind in QB play.
Hold on.......... The BTN still has hope........ Michigan can beat Bama. You can bet that if Michigan can pull of a win against Bama then the BTN has their programming for the rest of January!!!!

Clemson plays in perfect weather against crap teams. You put them thru a Big10 schedule with highly variable weather, no way are they undefeated and win the Big10 each year.
Why on earth would anyone outside of this board and a small part of TN want to re watch the PSU vs Memphis cotton bowl highlights?
Let’s see how Clemson or Alabama or other southern teams would fare with a steady dose of BIG teams weekly in cold, rainy, snowy settings. Oh yes, that ain’t reality as are most of the ridiculous comparisons in this thread.
The same can be said about any past game shown on the BTN. Why would I watch OSU/Michigan all day? Or OSU/Anyone except PSU? Replayed games are a niche market.
Because it was an exciting game with a lot of big plays. To the extent that anyone really wants to watch any past games, the Cotton Bowl would be a pretty good choice. Much better than many, many older games that are shown on BTN.

You are right. Penn State, OSU, Michigan would be competitive in the SEC , but not consistant Champions in the conference
I am not the kind of fan who writes off a whole network's coverage out of some snit, but I almost never watch BTN. It's just terrible.
