Are from relatively new posters, seemingly attempting to stir up ‘sh_t’ while everybody is feeling the pain and emotional-agony after the ugly loss yesterday

I’ve attempted to stay away for the most part, until the ‘feelings’/‘emotions’ of a 9 overtime loss to Illinois go away. Never a good time to vent IMO.

✔️As a wise old head coach once said, “You’re never as good as you think when you win, and you’re never as bad as you think when you lose’

I’m not sure the “feelings / emotions” of yesterday’s game will ever go away.

Alt accounts from regular posters, some new accounts from Pitt trolls posing as PSU fans.

But, lots of regulars are ready for the next chapter in PSU football I think. And my anecdotal evidence suggests a lot of casual fans are as well. Fair to ask if it will be better under someone new - as is ‘how much worse could it be?’ Penn State is a resilient blue blood program bigger than any one coach. It will be fine either way.

I’ve just come to the realization he’s not going to get PSU to that championship level. He can recruit but there comes a point where you can’t consistently blame the OC for the offensive woes and Oline struggles when the only constant is the HC.

No, he probably isn't, but you have to realize that his replacement probably wont' either. And you'll need five years to decide he isn't the answer. So you're talking about a high probability of moving on again in 2026

I've watched this for a long time and it seems like the best thing a school can do is hang on to a coach who has maybe a 10-20 percent chance of getting you to the playoff level in any given season. Then it just becomes a numbers game and you expect him to get you there about once in five or ten years. It is looking like Franklin may be more in the 10 percent category.
He's in the zero percent category, apologist.

I’ve been here a long time, and it’s time for a change. He does appeal to me as a recruiter, probably what he’s best at, but at some point you have to ask, what’s the point of a great class if the players aren’t coached or developed?

Sure, we could end up going on a sideways quest like Nebraska or FSU, but we could also improve where we are now like Georgia or Oklahoma. The idea of someone like a Luke Fickell, who is just dying to get back at OSU, is very appealing.

Yeah, since he’s never had double digit wins in a season, he needs to go. I’m tired of 7-5 every year…oh wait, never mind.

What makes you think Luke Fickell is dying to get back at tOSU? He stayed on after the interim season and left a couple years before Day got the job.

Let’s roll the dice!

That’s what Nebraska said, and Tennessee, and Miami, and FSU….great idea.
But if you do roll the die it has to be go big or go home. If they’re not going big with a HR hire then you might as well keep the status quo. So..your comparison to Neb, TN, Miami, and FSU is moot. It needs to be more comparable to Oklahoma, Bama (when the hired Saban), and OSU (when they hired Urban).

Do you really think PSU is going to go big like that? No way. And even if they did, there’s a good chance one of those big names wouldn’t take the job and you’re back to hoping you get someone that doesn’t kill the program.

Average football coaches don’t win 42 games in four years, sorry. And great coaches lose games they shouldn’t and have down seasons.
I think also that some very unusual events of 2020 and 2021 have really hurt this program. In 2020, if we had a normal season and didn't lose any players, we would have been dominant. In, fact we would have played OSU in a white out and the talent to get them. Again, I am looking at a 2020 team rated in the top 5 pre-season - Micah, Journey, no injury to Noah, etc.

then in 2021 let's say we don't have injuries, and I think you are looking at a much different situation. DL would have Isaac, Beamon and PJ. Also, healthy Sean and all RBs healthy along with Wormley.

injuries are part of the game, but the current team has not hit a point where they can withstand certain injuries with a next man up assumption.

Can we agree to this…if Pitt makes it to the CFP this year Franklin gets fired…currently sitting at a 23% chance.

Let’s roll it anyway. Eventually Bama found their guy!
Losing like yesterday? How much worse could it get. Game day coaching can get much better! Recruiting? Probably not…but time will tell.

Would like to see a restoration of the PSu identity of tough, hard-nosed, smart football.

We are light years from that right now.

It depends what the university wants I guess and if they don’t want it then there is no point in making any change…but there is also no point in paying the man what he’s getting paid and spending all the $$ he wants to spend for average results. Would you agree to that or not?

I'm not ready to jump on the can Franklin bandwagon. If Clifford doesn't get injured, we are most likely still undefeated and pumped for a big showdown with OSU. There aren't too many programs that can absorb the loss of a starting QB without going through some major struggles. That doesn't mean we can't second-guess some coaching decisions, but I'm willing to cut him some slack.

You think they're going to fire a coach that's bringing in the #1 QB and #1 RB next season?
He was also going to bring in Brandon Winbush and Justin Fields too..so there’s that.

also, if you read my conversation with AWS I was saying that “IF” they parted with JF the university HAD to get a homerun hire…that was the only way to go and if they couldn’t or wouldn’t do that then it’s not worth firing him.

Well we dodged a bullet with one of them. Both Singleton and Allar can see playing time immediately. Isn't that a selling point?
Yeah ok. We sure dodged a bullet not getting Fields. Again, this has nothing to do with what I actually posted anyway.

It could be much, much, much worse. Anyone who is ready to run CJF out of town hasn't been paying attention to what happens when other programs fire coaches who win 9 to 10 games a year.

He’s not winning 9 or 10 this year and he had a losing record last year. Firing him with his buyout is a total non-starter, but there are some glaring issues that he seems incapable of fixing. His seat should be getting hotter.

Injuries are certainly part of the game. This team lacks the grit to win when 1 or 2 key players go down. There are no viable backups in certain positions. After how many years, Franklin hasnt built depth at QB, the OL and DL are soft, despite their rankings the RBs don't do well consistently (see OL issues as well). He is a decent recruiter but poor developer of talent.

Has he ever outcoached anyone? It seems when we win it is just talent alone that gets us by. Did he outcoach Meyer in '16 or Crist? Maybe Crist in the B10 championship game. Point being is he is outcoached far more than he does the outcoaching.

I am an old poster and a Joe guy, but our currently coach has not shown that he can coach on gameday, nor hire coaches to get us to the next level. He has been given 7 years, that is maybe a year too long, we need to get a Championship level coach. We pay too much money to the university to have results like this! There is no way that a Penn State team with the current talent level should lose to Illinois at home and have almost no yards rushin!!!. Results matter, Franklin needs to go!!!!! overdue!!!!

Name the championship level (assuming this means multiple p5 championships and some playoff appearances) coach you’re hiring after the 30 million dollar buyout.

My interest in Penn State football has waned over the years to the point that yesterdays loss didn't bother me at all. I did watch the game, cheered, and would have preferred a win, but I no longer live and die with the results. As a result, I can be completely objective. 😇 My opinion.... Franklin will prove the naysayers wrong, lose to OSU but win out after that, and win a National Championship in 3 years. Trust me. I know stuff.:)

Ohio State

The only problem with your thesis is times are a changing. What I mean is Americans' standard of living is finally adjusting to globalization. That means less discretionary income. Compounded by inflation and high taxes and when people do go out for entertainment they'll expect an enjoyable experience, not what Franklin served up Saturday! You can forget about fans being satiated with a "10-20 percent chance of getting into the playoffs." Those schools will drop football due to lack of revenue. So you're left with the Alabama, USC, Texas and LSU teams of the world. Welcome to the new world order. Move over University of Chicago.

I came to that realization in 2016 but had the feeding in 2014 during his first camp when I got some pretty specific reports indicating he has poor decision making skills.
