Observation: Almost all negative posts blaming/calling out CJF since yesterday

"USC is a resilient blue blood program bigger than any one coach. It will be fine either way."

"Texas is a resilient blue blood program bigger than any one coach. It will be fine either way."

"Nebraska is a resilient blue blood program bigger than any one coach. It will be fine either way."

"Michigan is a resilient blue blood program bigger than any one coach. It will be fine either way."

"Tennessee is a resilient blue blood program bigger than any one coach. It will be fine either way."

"Miami is a resilient blue blood program bigger than any one coach. It will be fine either way."

"Florida State is a resilient blue blood program bigger than any one coach. It will be fine either way."

""Pitt is a resilient blue blood program bigger than any one coach. It will be fine either way. still sucks"

That mentality that's led all of these schools to some pretty shitty coaches in the last decade or so.

Every program mentioned, perhaps with the exception of Nebraska, has a culture problem of one form or another. Add us to the list. Ours is one of Universal Basic Income; that is, guaranteed income for life regardless of performance. The only problem with that is Americans' standard of living is taking a massive hit due to globalization, inflation and taxes so people won't have the discretionary income or the patience to accept mediocrity. I posit that many programs, such as Pitt and PSU, are in the throes of a death rattle. They're about to go the way of this board. Who's to say how many college programs survive but those which do will be farm clubs of whatever NFL teams remain standing. That's my vision of the future of American football. JMO.

Just as many to go the other way:

Bama
LSU
Georgia
Wisconsin
Oregon
Clemson
Oklahoma
Ohio State

So which of those were similar situations?

LSU- yes but Already fired the replacement.

Bamas previous coach won 6, 10, 6 and 6 games and had a scandal that vacated victories.

Wisconsin- replacing 19-7 coach after 2 years isn’t really apples to apples and Chryst has accomplished less than Franklin at a program with more big ten titles the last decade (and an easier path) so I assume their fans “deserve more”

Oregon- Cristobal replaced a 7 win coach who quit after a season.

Clemson- bowden never won more than 9 games in 10 seasons. No acc championships..

UGA- ok but richt hadn’t won the sec in over a decade

OSU and Oklahoma were retirements with hand picked successors.

So the only programs that fired championship winning coaches and have seen success after are LSU and UGA, and LSU has already fired the next guy. Let me know when Sandy gives either program the resources those two give their football teams.

Take an edible and learn the definition of mediocrity. If what Franklins done is mediocre then everyone outside of a handful of coaches is.

Our fan base deserves a decade of 6-9 win seasons.

It depends what the university wants I guess and if they don’t want it then there is no point in making any change…but there is also no point in paying the man what he’s getting paid and spending all the $$ he wants to spend for average results. Would you agree to that or not?
Since the university isn’t going to go big because they won’t want to pay the kind of money it takes, then Franklin makes about what he should make. You guys act like he’s been 5-7 every year of his career.

What does Pitt have to do with Franklin?

Nothing but it would confirm what many on here have said about the program being better off in the ACC. Sandy should broadcast the depositing of the check from the big ten since that’s what our fan base is crazy about.

Has he ever outcoached anyone? It seems when we win it is just talent alone that gets us by. Did he outcoach Meyer in '16 or Crist? Maybe Crist in the B10 championship game. Point being is he is outcoached far more than he does the outcoaching.
That’s just ridiculous. It’s easy to claim he only wins because he has more talent. Then turn around and blame him when we lose. In other words, it’s always his fault when we lose and never because of him when we win….don’t you see that as a bit ridiculous? If coaching was only needed when you play teams with more talent, there would be a hell of a lot of coaches out there winning a lot more games.

Face it. We have lots of holes in our roster. You need to have back to back to back top recruiting classes to be Ohio state. Then the coach looks like a genius.

NIL may actually level the playing field with the free money cheating programs like Ohio state. Let’s see what happens

I mean, who is responsible for not adjusting to this? Ultimately, it's Franklin.

Just rewatched (much to my chagrin) some of the OT and what is clear to me is that some players did not execute well at all. 79, Wallace at OT was dominated by the Illinois DE. It caused Clifford to throw high to Strange for the potential winning points and also did lot allow him tome
To look to his left where Lambert-Smith was uncovered. Clifford didn’t even look to Cain in the flat for another game winner. Strange ran right into the tackle on the shuffle pass. If he goes left he scores easily. Warren could have beat the DE around the end and walked into the EZ, but he rushed his pass to wide open Clifford. It was a very ugly game that we needed to just escape but it was not to be because we really don’t have players who are calm and skilled enough right now to be able to make plays when the pressure is on. If Clifford is healthy, then this becomes a moot point. Big if, though. Franklin rolled the dice on this game and it came up snake eyes.
Just one other question. MY is on the sideline. Who relays to him the formations from the press box? Maybe he needs
to be up there, especially in this league where teams can actually play a little defense as opposed to the Big 12.

Not ridiculous at all. Good talent can sometimes overcome poor coaching, and bad talent can sometimes be insufficient despite good coaching. The opposites are also true. A good coach can sometimes make up for the team's shortcomings elsewhere, and bad coaching can sometimes ruin an otherwise good team.

The HC has ultimate responsibility for the talent on the team, developing that raw talent into a finished product, and game day coaching. All 3 of those must be successful in order for the team to win at a high level. And we are missing on some or all of those.

My interest in Penn State football has waned over the years to the point that yesterdays loss didn't bother me at all. I did watch the game, cheered, and would have preferred a win, but I no longer live and die with the results. As a result, I can be completely objective. 😇 My opinion.... Franklin will prove the naysayers wrong, lose to OSU but win out after that, and win a National Championship in 3 years. Trust me. I know stuff.:)
They say ever person has a double. You couldn’t have described my feelings any better than you did yours - although I’ll go with 2 years. 😉

Just a few things...Do you know how long it took Bama to find their coach? It didn't happen over night. You want instant results and yet keep mentioning Bama.
And look who is or at least was at the top of the LSU list? He or his name look familiar?
Wisconsin? Boy please.
Whats Clemson's current status without an elite QB or RB or OL or Defense?
Its not nearly as easy as you think.
The fact that PSU has had 2 coaches in the last 10 years and have not fallen to the depths of many of those other schools that continually chase the coaching brass ring every 4 years is freaking amazing. Especially when you factor into who's doing the hiring at PSU.

So if you win 10-11 games a year based on just talent, then I would say the coach is doing a pretty damn good job. And one other scenario you forgot, you could have more talent and the coaching could be perfect, but the players play like sh!t and you lose. Wow, who knew players could actually influence a game.

He’s not winning 9 or 10 this year and he had a losing record last year. Firing him with his buyout is a total non-starter, but there are some glaring issues that he seems incapable of fixing. His seat should be getting hotter.

There is zero chance of Franklin being fired. That being the case, he can't be on the hot...or even warm...seat.

That was a terrible loss on Saturday. The frustration is understandable and some of the criticism justified, but the people making the decisions are looking at the big picture...and Franklin is their guy. I think they have a more realistic view than fans saying this needs to happen or that needs to happen.

On the other hand, there is a real chance that he ends up leaving of his own accord. In my opinion, that would not be a good thing for Penn State...nor is it likely to work out the way some people seem to think.

I came to that realization in 2016 but had the feeding in 2014 during his first camp when I got some pretty specific reports indicating he has poor decision making skills.
Poor decision-making skills…no truer has statement…

Only fans want t to fire a coach after every loss. And if anyone says they don’t do that, go back and read the threads after every single loss.

These are the same decision-makers that managed the Sandusky situation…hard pass

The lynch mob is riled up. The usual suspects and a few new ones.

They seem to believe endless whining and repetition will win their case.

Fortunately they are not decision makers.
The amazing thing is they think PSU is going to fire a coach f the same
But if you do roll the die it has to be go big or go home. If they’re not going big with a HR hire then you might as well keep the status quo. So..your comparison to Neb, TN, Miami, and FSU is moot. It needs to be more comparable to Oklahoma, Bama (when the hired Saban), and OSU (when they hired Urban).git bad news for you

But after a accumulation of debacles like Saturday, the firings often come to pass…it is fans who ultimately pay the freight…it’s how the free market works…

Wisconsin not losing at home against Illinois…so there is that…not getting pushed around their home field by a JV team

But it’s not the fans on a message board (thank God).

Yes, I am aware. And Bama search process did not include being pushed around by the SEC equivalent of Illinois…Happily trade places with many different of those teams…our program has lost its identity.

Do you know what that identity is/was?

Hint: it was most certainly not on display Saturday. Embarrassing. The excuse makers are equally if not more embarrassing.

Are from relatively new posters, seemingly attempting to stir up ‘sh_t’ while everybody is feeling the pain and emotional-agony after the ugly loss yesterday

I’ve attempted to stay away for the most part, until the ‘feelings’/‘emotions’ of a 9 overtime loss to Illinois go away. Never a good time to vent IMO.

✔️As a wise old head coach once said, “You’re never as good as you think when you win, and you’re never as bad as you think when you lose’
I’ve posted awhile and stay away from football here due to the negativity but I’ve had enough myself .

I have no faith in that .

But mostly we’d get a new coach every few weeks.
Hardly. This is year 8. Most rationale observers are patient. But eventually their must be rationale accountability. How many more Illinois games are going to be tolerated before adults say “enough.”

Yep, it’s 8 years . Should we wait 18 more?

Yes, like you, I am aware and didn't just "discover" PSU football in 2021. I've been around a while.
But unlike you I do know some of bama's history although to be honest I don't even understand what you mean by this..."And Bama search process did not include being pushed around by the SEC equivalent of Illinois"
But just for grins go check out the 1997 bama schedule...spoiler alert they lost to a 2-6 Arkansas team.
Do you know why the Bama/PSU game was rescheduled for 2010?
Hint: It wasn't because they were dominating the football world just yet.
As far as your "excuse makers line" I defy you to go through my posts from this past game to see if you find me making excuses.
Hint: You wont because I didn't.

I have not been a fan of this years version of Wallace or well anyone on the OL for that matter. Its been a complete regression since last year and even since the Whisky and Auburn games.
As for MY he's always been on the sideline and prefers it so I'll go with what he wants.
I think Ty Howle is at least 1 of the people in the booth relaying things down to him. And I won't pull any punches here. I'm not impressed with what I've seen Howle do with TE's so far.

Complain all you want about the rushing yards but we gave up 10 pts. The problem wasn't the defense. If our offense does anything at all we win this going away.
Very good point, we were one play away from winning on a call, a dropped int, and a dropped td . I don't blame one group but players weren’t making plays.
