Ohio Schools ordered (assume by Governor) to all close for three weeks starting Monday (NM)

K-12.
Several of the universities already extended their spring breaks until first of April.

I hear that here in WV, (which btw as I write, has 0 cases) they wont do this, as the kids are probably better off at school then home (K-12). Most get at least 2 meals a day at school, and for many thats it. Who is going to watch the kids? Etc. Etc.

Can't disagree with you on any of your post.
A lot of kids rely on school to be the only piece of stability in their lives. Meals, friends, teachers as mentors. And, the watching the kids thing is something I doubt many thought about. Parents take off of work to stay home - will this fall under not docking pay due to the virus?

Going to get uglier before it gets prettier.

During the announcement the Ohio Director of Health stated that 1% of Ohioans carry the virus. That’s 170,000 people. People now want to know how she came up with that number and why we only have 5 cases. Also stated 40% will get it.

I mean - IF that 117K number (Ohio's population is just short of 12MM) is actually correct?

That's probably a good thing. Ohio (or America)'s total death rate hasn't increased in any dramatic way in recent days. Now perhaps it will. But if we are currently at 1% we may already be a bit along the x-axis in the "flatten the curve graph" that is getting a lot of play.

Etc, etc, etc. Seems to be the right decision.

She is exaggerating for full political effect. This is becoming the theatre of the absurd. This was not done for SARS or Ebola. They are unnecessarily spreading panic.

Tom McAndrew to shut this board due to a predicted increase in stupid posts as students and workers will now be at home more, spend more time on this board and have more time to make bad posts.......I support this measure until 1 week before the first game of the season.

How would the new offensive coordinator know what plays work and which ones did not work without this board. How will the new OL Coach know which players to play, without 21 Guns proclaiming the starters??

Our district just closed for two weeks followed by Spring break. Students will be allowed to come in to get breakfast and lunch and I’m sure we’ll come up with some sort of a plan to deliver meals to some other families. It’s going to be a massive hardship for the families without a support system around them.

Few questions:

What are the single parents going to do now that they have to stay home with their kids? I imagine in a lot of places, single parents are living pretty close to paycheck-to-paycheck. What will 2+ weeks of no work do to their bill situation?

What about parents in the healthcare field such as nurses and doctors? Now that kids are having to stay home, what are we going to do in the hospitals when nurses and doctors have to call in and not work because they have to stay home with their kids? Now we're taking the "fighting force" out of the hospitals and lessening the ability of the hospitals to fight these things.

Is there a win-win here? I don't know... Robbing Peter to pay Paul
