Been a lot of talk about Ohio State playing the spoiler, and I think they potentially could if the cards fall exactly right, but I think they've also been looking ahead so I wanted to do the same. Figured next year could be a huge year for them, and wanted to go a step further and look at the following year as well:

2017-18:
125- Rodriguez SO
133- Tomo SR
141- Pletcher SO/Hayes SO
149- Hayes SO/Jordan JR
157- Jordan JR/Ryan JR
165- Burcher JR/Ryan JR/Cleary FR/White SO
174- BoJo SR
184- MyMar JR
197- Moore SO
HWT- Snyder SR

I've bolded who I think is going to go. Pletcher probably best served with a RS and trying to go down to 33. Wrestling tough for the team this year but likely better suited down a weight. It's essentially the same lineup as this year, sans Pletcher and insert Hayes (where there will be no drop-off). I think you could potentially bump Hayes and Jordan but it probably makes less sense in the long-run, which is the following year's lineup:

Then 2018-19:
125- Rodriguez JR
133- Pletcher SO/JR / Fitzgerald SO/JR
141- Hayes JR / Pletcher SO/JR
149- Jordan SR / Hayes JR
157- Jordan SR/Ryan SR/Mattox tFR
165- Burcher SR/Ryan SR/Cleary SO/White JR/Romero rFR
174- Burcher SR/Ryan SR/Cleary SO/White JR/Romero rFR
184- MyMar SR
197- Moore JR
HWT- Singletary rFR

I think this lineup comes down to whether you think points from Fitzgerald in the line-up would be enough. 57/65 will probably be hole-ish and you don't know what you're getting from the freshman at 74/HWT. If everyone can perform to their abilities you MAY see the bump, but my hunch is everyone stays down. If White gets in then I could see either scenario play out.

Either way two solid lineups but I don't know if they'll be able to bring enough juice to take it home.

Next year they should be very tough.

Next year they should be very tough.

While they will have a very tough team next year, they have the misfortune of facing possibly an all-time great PSU team. PSU will have four number one ranked wrestlers preseason as well as four other guys in the top five in their weight class. That's not even mentioning Nick Lee who could be a beast right off the bat.

Barring injury, no one is beating Penn State next year.

Cutch top 5 next year? No. Hope he's not even starting.

Cutch is ranked ninth right now by Intermat. There are four guys ahead of him who will be graduating. Three of the four guys directly behind him are seniors as well. That absolutely puts him at number five preseason at 197.

If Rodriguez has to remain at 125 for the next couple seasons, that could be an issue for Brutus. Rodriguez has given no indication that he can be consistently effective at that weight. and I don't see that changing in the future. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if one (or both) of the Koontz brothers becomes the 125 lb starter the next couple years. Maybe wrestle one as a true frosh and redshirt the other, then reverse it the following year.

As discussed in the past, Brutus had a better overall lineup if NaTo was able to remain at 125, with Rodriguez/Pletcher/Hayes at 133/141. But no matter how 125 works out, they will have a very potent lineup in 2017/2018, particularly if Isaiah White comes aboard, as rumored he might.

I didn't say they would be better than PSU. They will be favored at 133, 141, 197 and
Heavyweight. 174 is possibly a toss up. PSU might have to bonus its' way to a win.

PSU will be monster favorites at 25, 49, 57, 65 and 84.
tOSU will be favored at 33, 97 & HW
If Nick Lee goes, then 41 & 74 are toss-ups.
And I'll take Hall over BoJo next year with confidence.

I hate to put blame and point fingers on a 21 year old kid accusing his self interests causing a team title from happening.... But I truly believe Tomasello lifted his self not out of 125, but also his team for any realistic shot at a team title next few seasons.

Simply put, I think the only realistic shot OSU would have at a team title is to be able to wrestle both Pletcher and Hayes next year. To do this, Nate would have to drop back down to man the black hole at 125. It's been discussed to death, and even though Rodriguez is giving a valiant effort just to keep from forfeiting the weight, there aren't warm bodies options beyond he next year, let alone point scorers at nationals. If Nate were able to make 25, Pletcher 33, and Hayes 41... Then the other thing needing to happen is for Isaiah White successfully coming in and plugging in at 165. This would put OSU solid at 9 of the 10, and would allow Burcher to drop back down to what I believe is his much more succesful weight at 157 where he can wrestle off with Jake Ryan. Burcher is just another one who bumped up more than one class so he could see the mat and help the team fill a gaping hole. He is talented, just not being used correctly yet.

I'll end with there is no way I diesel Nato moving back down. So because of this, it leaves a hole st 125, and forces a potential AA in most likely Pletcher to redshirt and wait a year until NATO graduates. Nate at 33 hurts two fold next season. If he were able to:

125: Nate Tomasello RS SR
133: Luke Pletcher SO
141: KeShawn Hayes RS SO
149: Micah Jordan RS JR
157: Cody Burcher RS JR
165: Isaiah White SO
174: Bo Jordan RS SR
184: Myles Martin JR
197: Kollin Moore RS SO
HWY: Kyle Snyder SR

Now THAT squad has a shot....

Would have tremendous depth with the Koontz twins st 125, Fitzgerald and Rodriguez at 33/41, Jake Ryan or Burcher at 57, Elijah Cleary at 65, Steiner, Snyder, Caldwell in the upper weights.

If white does come to Columbus, I wonder if he can make 157? White at 157 and Romero at 165 would likely be big improvement. I too seriously doubt Nate would drop back to 125.

They could have 5 finalists and a 3rd place next year.
And that would still leave them so far into the rearview mirror nobody will be able to tell if it is a speck of bucknuts, a Hawk speck or a cowboy piece.

not disputing that.
I was just pointing out OSU might have an unbelievable team next year that generally speaking could be viewed as a large favorite. However, next year's PSU team is loaded to the point that what I said in response is not viewed as hyperbole.

You don't have to point the finger at Tomasello. Presumably he has an S&C coach responsible for and personally overseeing the team's lifting sessions. And a head coach who sets the direction and who bragged about Tomasello being able to deadlift an aircraft carrier.

If Tomasello lifted his way out of 125, perhaps those guys could've managed it differently.

Few months ago, I mapped out what I think will be tOSUs future lineups. I've posted this on our (tOSU) forums. Pasted below.

Note, when I wrote it, I didnt realize how much the cut to 125 was affecting Rodriquez. He is no longer a long-term plan. The twins from Wisconsin will have to wrestle some next year and have Rodriquez just cut down to 125 for March. The night-before weigh-ins tourney will be much more friendly for Jose, then the 1 hour weigh-ins prior to dual meets.
Also: this speculates that we land David Carr, Rocky Jordan, and Isaiah White transfers to tOSU. All, or none could occur. White needs the grades... and not even sure about transfer rules and if he could be in the lineup next year. Carr- who knows where he ends up. Rocky- is he a long term answer at 149? or backup?
Recently heard Braken Mead (113) from Olentangy Liberty was offered, and would be another option for 125. And, Jaden Maddox just committed. Plans to be a 165.
Per my speculation below, Tom Ryan needs to be finding 141, 184 and 197 out of the current high school sophomores.
Last: as fun as it would be to put NaTo back at 125, to make the strongest tourney lineup for 2017, it aint happening.

In my speculation:

2017/8
125 Rodriquez rs-so for holiday tourneys and March. Brady/Dylan Koontz or Mead wrestles duals.
133 Tomasello rs-sr (Pletcher redshirts)
141 Hayes rs-so
149 Micah rs-jr
157 ? Ryan rs-jr
165 Isaiah White so (after making the grades at NotreDame college and transferring). If no White, then possible Romero wrestles 65 as true frosh.
174 BoJo rs-sr (Kaleb Romero redshirts)
184 MyMartin jr
197 Kollin Moore rs-so
Hwy Kyle sr (Singletary redshirts)

2018/19
[we will lose three hammers and need to realize this year will suck.. so redshirt some studs to prep for the future]
125 Rodriquez rs-jr for March. Koontz/Koontz/Meade otherwise.
133 Pletcher rs-so
141 Hayes rs-jr
149 Micah rs-sr (Rocky Jordan redshirts)
157 Ryan rs-sr (redshirt Carr)
165 Burcher rs-sr (Isaiah White redshirts, Mattox redshirts)
174 Kaleb Romero rs-fr
184 Backup (redshirt Myles)
197 K Moore rs-jr
HWY Singletary rs-fr

2019/20
125 Rodriquez rs-sr (can he hold the weight that long?) or Koontz x 2, Mead (Jordan Decatur redshirts, Jacob Decatur redshirts)
133 Pletcher rs-jr
141 Hayes rs-sr
149 Rocky Jordan rs-fr
157 Carr rs-fr
165 Isaiah White rs-jr or Mattox rs-fr
174 Kaleb Romero rs-so
184 Myles Martin rs-sr
197 K Moore rs-sr
HWY Singletary rs-so

2020/21
125 Jordan Decatur - rs-fr (Koontz x2 and Mead are rs-jr and rs-sr, Jacob Decatur rs-fr)
133 Pletcher rs-sr
141
149 Rocky Jordan rs-so
157 Carr rs-so
165 Isaiah White rs-sr or Mattox rs-so
174 Kaleb Romero rs-jr
184
197 Kevin Snyder rs-sr
HWY Singletary rs-so

Jordan Decatur won't wrestle 125 in college Dar more likely 133/141

Some people around here (NE Ohio) say career 125. Just going by what I hear.
He is 126 this year by choice, not cutting (again, what I hear). Could be wrong.
Guess only Tom Ryan and Jordan know of the long term plans. Regardless or weight, I'm happy he will be in Columbus. He's fun to watch...like watching what Braxton Miller would have looked like, if he wrestled.

I actually do hope that's true because it would be better for the team but I also remember in their interview where they committed Jacob and Jordan said 1 of the reasons they both picked tOSU was because Jordan was getting big and they wouldn't be at the same weight. Even if it's just for a season it would be great for Jordan to wrestle 125

Cassar will be at 197 next year....Looks awesome in the room....Noone will touch PSU for the next several years FOR REAL....DYNASTY !!!!

I don't know if he can be healthy a whole year. I was at the match tonight and watched him throw a shirt into the crowd after the match. After the throw, he shook his arm and did kind of a shoulder roll like it bothered him. The rest of his tosses were underhand. I'm not sure how hard he is going in the room if throwing a T-shirt bothered him still. Hope it heals up 100%. Hate to see a kid lose a wrestling career due to injuries.

Plus side, it was awesome to hear the crowd cheer on Jimmy for his last match at rec and being there to see it!

Nick Nevills was injured for two years, and he came back just fine.

Not after two surgeries to the same part of the body? Or am I wrong on that. Everyone is different with healing or how bad the injury was. I was just pointing out that tonight didn't look good. Hope I am wrong.

No senior starters, so ON PAPER they are top-2 heading towards 2017-18. ON PAPER means very little, and I'm for getting through 2016-17 first.

Nick Nevills also did not have multiple shoulder surgeries.

Hey, I hope Cassar can come back 100%, but comparing Cassar's injury situation to that of Nevills makes little sense.
