I know, I know, one game at a time, but:

The last 2 games of the regular season for them will be a test they haven't experienced yet this season. Talent covers up many deficiencies. Wisconsin gave em hell, but they just don't have the talent to beat a team like OSU.

Both PSU and Michigan will give them trouble...

What do you think? Have they really been tested yet?

I've noticed that the few teams they've played with a pulse, like Wiscy and MSU to an extent, it takes them a quarter or so to really get going. The flood gates seem to open in the second half against them. Hoping our depth and talent will keep us in it until the fourth quarter, then who knows what can happen.

Unfortunately second halves have not been good for Penn State.

No team is unbeatable, not even ones that do go undefeated. It's a funny shaped ball, and luck isn't always with you, even of you have the better team.

No doubt, I only said that because the story in the media is that they are the best team since sliced bread. They also suck Fields hard. They are one play away from being placed in a less than desirable position...

Wiscy looked really s-l-o-w on defense yesterday. PSU matches up much better from that perspective. Should be one for the ages. Need to take care of business the next 2 games first.

Speed...Speed....Speed on both offense and defense. Only chance you have against them IMO. Both Wiscy and MSU are devoid of speed.

Can we convince OSU to wear Maryland uniforms? :)

I didn’t want to be one of the “complainers” yesterday - I’m happy our guys keep winning but I do think taking the second half “off” isn’t going to work as well over the next three games and it damn near bit them versus Michigan.

Funny how in 2016 they didn’t play until the second half and no lead was safe, now they play the first half and hope their lead is safe.

You mean comments like these...
"Look at that physical specimen!"
and...
"He looks like he just stepped out of central casting."

And these comments aren't attributable to Kirk Herbstreit.

I've got to believe we match-up with tOSU better than any team in the B1G. I just don't see Shea Patterson getting the job done against their relentless pressure.

Yep, even look at App state. They give everyone fits including the far superior talented teams. Speed kills. Combine that speed with talent as PSU and all the other top teams and you can compete with anyone.

Penn State is really the only team in the Big Ten that’s equipped to compete with OSU, based primarily on the kinds of players they’ve recruited on defense. Michigan does seem to be moving towards peaking at the right time, and they’re a pretty experienced bunch that I could see moving the ball on OSU. But I think Penn State’s athletic defense is the only one in the conference that has the chance of slowing down their offense.

I agree 100%. If Coach Franklin could get a physical running game going Clifford, Hamler, Shorter and Freiermuth will pick apart the OSU secondary. One more point, their offense has not seen a defense like Penn State’s fast, physical and relentless motor. I would never give OSU an automatic win against Penn State or Michigan, never!!

We will likely need to use a receiver to help on Chase Young when we want to take shots downfield. Can't block him 1-1 with any level of consistency, and they are too quick and talented to use 2 OL. He will make a few key plays against any opponent.
He will disrupt any opponent enough to take away a few plays that any team will need to make against them.... just as he did on our final offensive play last year. He is playing at an extremely high level this season. I'm thinking we will need to score around 30 to have a shot. We can play great D and still have them score 20-25.

We won't miss him when he leaves for the NFL after this season!

Let's see how we do against what will be a highly emotional and pumped Golden Gophers team who will have a chance to shine in a rare spotlight for them. There's a good chance they will go back into their hole and hide, but the first few series will be interesting.

And Indiana is playing well, so nothing is a given. I think we will head into Columbus at 10-0, but #9 and #10 will be tougher battles than we may have assumed in August. I'd almost rather play Rutgres before Ohio State, just as the SEC teams play 1AA teams before their season-ending rivalries.

Or... is Rutgres our rival?!?!:rolleyes:
The beautiful Turnpike-ParkwayTrophy (see close-up below) is at stake! - same designer as the Land Grant Trophy? Put that in your trophy case and smoke it, Scarlette Knights!

Of course O$U is beatable. They have yet to face any adversity. How will they react when there’s a close game in the 4th quarter. It’s coming. They’ve not matched up with similar athletes in any game they’ve played. Penn State will matchup. Michigan will also benefit because O$U typically has a PSU hangover for their following game. Remember Iowa in 2017 and Purdue last year?

Taking off my PSU tinted glasses, I think Michigan has a better chance of beating them than we do. I think we will give them the most competitive game they will have played all year to date, but it is tough to think we can beat them at their stadium, especially if our offense disappears for a couple of quarters - which could easily happen with their defense. As with us, they know that the PSU game means everything as far as the Big 10 East/Conference is concerned. They will put everything they have into beating us.

Then, they have to turn around the next week and go into Michigan Stadium. Yes, I know they have owned the skunk bears, but sooner or later that streak will be broken. UM may have very well turned a corner in the second half of our game. We have seen that OSU doesn't play so well right after they play us.

Penn State has the athletes to compete with them.

Wisky looked slow in everything they did on offense. Take time and Young and company will kill you.

We have a DL that can play even up with their OL. Hold Donbins to less than 100 and hit Fields is the formula. Easier said than done.

Our special teams have been tremendous this year. I look at them as our biggest improvement, better than wr improvement.

So..

1. Make no mistakes
2. Hold Dobbins to less than 100
3. Hit Fields early and often
4. Win the special teams battle

Then see if tOSU can win a game in the fourth quarter and if we can hold a lead if we get one.

Chase Young will make a few plays, to be sure - but Rasheed Walker has quietly put together a freshman All-American type of season at left tackle. He held his own against Epenesa and didn’t let him ruin the game; Young is a better player, but I don’t think we’ll see the same kind of “OSU defensive line ruins the game” type of scenario we saw over the last few years. The offensive line is playing really well right now.

Not arguing with what you are saying, but we also have to consider that Ohio State and LJ move Young around on the DL. He swaps ends, giving a slightly different look, which may help them to disrupt the OL blocking schemes. Our OL is playing well, no doubt. They will have a lot to prepare for going into the Ohio State game.

If we can hold our own in the first half as we did the last 2 years, I like our 2nd half chances better this season. But Ohio State is a better team this season than they were the previous two, imo.

Who would you spy on Fields with?

Definitely have the athletes to compete for sure. I just hope PSU can make the proper in game adjustments in a quick manner...

You mean like the last to two time PSU had a double digit lead in the fourth quarter.

That kid is legit, best defender in the Country. No hype what so ever. Walker better come ready to play. Walker has been as good as advertised playing very well.

Jan Johnson.

I would play Parsons on the line in a stand up
position as much as possible and have him pressure Fields from every angle.

I guess we will have to see what they do, but I like that idea though. Let them feast on Minnesota and keep building that confidence... that is huge for a young team

Every team is beatable including Alabama which we saw last year in the NC game. Like it or not, OSU has to be fearing both PSU and Michigan - especially Michigan with the tremendous roll their on now. This is the UM team we all expected at the beginning of the season. You can bet teams like LSU, Alabama and Clemson are all thanking the stars after they realize Michigan's 2 losses probably keeps them out of the playoffs. Not the same for OSU though. Their beatdown by Jim and UM is just a few weeks away. The Wolverine has been released in Michigan Football.

They are really rolling with a one game winning streak.

OSU is really, really good. They have more talent than anyone in the Big Ten
OK, they're talented but there's more to winning than talent. As far as depth, I'd have to go with UM. I'd rank them with Alabama. There's a reason Jim and UM were picked as the preseason favorites. It took a little longer than expected, but NO ONE in the country wants a piece of Michigan right now. Just go ask Kelly and ND. They are still trying to figure out what hit them last night.

I think PSU has a chance because our D is tough against the run and OSU’s offense is predicated on running the football.
They can pass but from the few times I watched them they didn’t get the passing game going until they established the run.
If PSU can stop the run and force them into passing plays and manage to get their young QB into some turnovers we can win the game in the shoe.

I know I'm responding to RutgerAl in Skunkweasal clothing but....while Michigan has a very good and experienced offensive line, OSU is solid at every position with no real weakness. Their defensive front seven will not give up the run game that ND did and their secondary will hurt you. On offense, they have spread speed, power, and great ability on the outside. OSU will once again eat Michigan alive. Michigan's aggressive style will once again give up huge plays in the secondary this year as OSU has both experience and athletes. I actually think Penn St will match up a little better for a while at least, due to the speed and athleticism of the defense. But unless Clifford begins to hit other options on the outside, OSU will shutdown the run game and has the athletes to cover Hamler after his Impact on them a year ago. Friermuth is still a mismatch for everyone but PSU will need more than that. The offense must continue to grow with Clifford improving decision making while seeing more of the field, getting some of these explosive backs in space, and actually having its best game against arguably the best defense in the country. I am still surprised we haven't seen more wheel routes from backs out of the backfield, occasional jet sweeps with Brown to the outside with Hamler on the misdirection. There is still a lot of offense for this team to add as it grows.
