OT: Black Widow movie

Has anybody seen it? Thoughts? Seeing it tomorrow night.

Lots of issues you don’t normally hear about Marvel movies. Forgettable villains, bad CGI, and awkwardly situated since it happens before BW’s death. I hear Florence Pugh is terrific and I’ll check it out, but expectations are low.

on a similar topic, finally got around to watching Captain Marvel last weekend. Man was that bad. Has to be the worst Marvels movie made. Plot was weak, acting was so-so, storyline was blah. Just really disappointing.

Important though because it introduces Skrulls living among us and Captain Marvel as a major future character. I liked it 🤷‍♂️ .

My neighbor goes to two or three movies a week. he and his wife, now empty-nesters, feel it gives them some couple time. They do a movie then go to dinner to discuss and talk about other things. They started going back to the theaters when they opened in Ohio this spring. They told me, Monday, the movies have been awful with not a single one worth not just the money, but the time to view them. He said if they don't see a good movie soon, they are going to just do a Netflix movie night and then go to dinner to see if they can capture the same feel. The traditional movie theater/movie night thingy is in deep doodoo.

I've seen it. It's good. There are worse Marvel movies for sure. Florence Pugh steals the show in every scene she is in. David Harbour as the Red Guardian is great. There is a ton of chemistry between Harbour, Johansson, Pugh and Weisz (the family).

The villains are not great. They are probably the weakest of movie villains in the MCU but it's nothing so bad that you shouldn't see it. The action is good and the fights are cool.

You get to see a good bit of Black Widow's past. All in all I had fun watching it and will probably give it another watch.

Bad reviews? Lol. It will make a killing. Basically the only movie of its kind this summer. Just wait and see. Stupid top gun moved its date until Later this year.

The Suicide Squad will be out too, but will also be on HBOMax. Looks pretty fun.

+1. I thought her character was ok but it wasn't that interesting and even less so now.
I'll pass.
Loving Loki though.
Also looking forward to Black Adam. The Rock was always a very big guy but holy cow he's HUGE.

Loki series has indeed been excellent. IMO, by far the best of the Marvel series so far.

Scarlett Johannson in it? Only reason needed to watch it.

Sure, but cheeky Brit Florence Pugh (as ScarJo’s sister) is nice too…

My son and I saw Black Widow a little while ago. Red Guardian was great, the Red Room was fine. It was okay, always fun to be in the MCU.
Just got home from seeing it at a drive-in…not the best way to see this movie. I was outside of the car in a lawn chair and it was difficult to understand the many Russian dialects from where I sat. I probably missed about 50% of the dialogue. It looked pretty good. I’ll check it out again when it hits Disney+.

I thought it was just ok. Nearly fell asleep but that was due to the recliner seats in the theatre able to turn into a bed. Big lull in the middle of the movie. Also, one of the main villains was changed to a woman while it’s a man in the MCU. Weird plot twist.

Saw it yesterday from the couch. It was ok. I guess we’ve been spoiled in that most Marvel movies seem to tie in to the others, whether it be introducing heroes/villains, tying into the overall MCU timeline, etc. Since this took place between Civil War and Infinity War, we know the overall outcome and it doesn’t really add to the overall story, other than the post credit scene.

we'll see if they can sustain that. The last thing I want to watch is another bang-bang comic book movie. I guess it could be age or whatever.

I am trudging through The Crown and three episodes I saw last weekend would be far better than a comic book movie. One episode is how Prince Phillip was enamored with the astronauts as he goes through a mid-life crises and how he is disappointed in them. The second one was about the coal mine disaster that killed 150+ children and the Queen was slow to react. The third one was went the Torries wanted her to side with them in a coup and she preserved democracy in the UK.

But hey, if I was 17 and had a hot date I'd still be at the theater too!

I watched S3 of The Crown and really liked it. Prince Charles is a d*ck.

My son took his boys to see the movie. They all liked it a lot except my oldest grandson. He's a Marvel purist and hated the change to one of the key villains.

I only saw 1.5 seasons of it, but it sure didn't make him look good. I forget where I heard it, but I did enjoy this story about Prince Charles:

He was visiting Australia, and upon entering the country had to go through security. The person said to him, "I'm sorry to ask these things, but it's required of everyone entering. Have you ever been convicted of a crime?" Charles replies "I'm sorry, I didn't realize that was still a requirement." Edit: This story was about Philip, not Charles, I mixed it up.

I liked BW. It was funny, lots of action, good chemistry among the actors. I thought it had a good villain in the Taskmaster. The plot was ridiculous, but that is kind of standard for these types of movies. And the end credit scene was a shocker, at least for me.

Scarlett Johansson has filed a lawsuit against Disney. Apparently, she was to take a chunk off of the box office income, meaning movie theater revenue. Due to the pandemic, Disney (who has sunk millions and millions into streaming, simultaneously released the movie on Apple +. But ScarJoe doesn't get any piece of that. So ScarJoe is suggesting that Disney cut into her pie and should pony up some cash. Disney, God bless them, said that ScarJoe was insensitive to the worldwide pandemic. Ouch. Sounds like war.

Disney: "The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney has fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract and furthermore, the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date.”

Quite a brave move by ScarJoe who is certainly putting her career on the line with large production companies. Disney, especially taking this hard line, is also putting their rep at risk.

I'm with Johansson on this. Managing the financial issues brought on by the pandemic is their problem, not hers. They undercut her contract and while it may not have violated the contract, it's in very bad form. Johansson better cover all of her bases in the future.
