The first caught me by surprise - missed it in the theater but caught it on a plane ride and I was blown away by how good it was. Can't wait for this (and DP2!)...
Roger Deakins was shafted out of an Oscar for that film.

I was going to check the competition that year and wow, what a tough category. Saying that, I can't complain too much about The Revenant winning - it was spectacularly shot IMO (and that bear scene was fookin' intense!). Hateful Eight too (with the 70mm stuff and Morricone score - wow). Bottom line is Deakins probably should have won several Oscars before this year - notably 'O Brother Where Art Thou?' and 'No Country For Old Men'. What a career!
