OT - Favorite Salt Water Fish

Wahoo
Snapper
Cobia

Grouper as others have said is species dependent . Red grouper is a little meh and it seems to be the only ones I catch.:(

I'm surprised by the number of mahi responses. Don't get me wrong, its decent, but to me it's kinda the "grilled chicken breast" of fish. Its always on the menu because of the large numbers and phenomenal growth rate, but short of on a sandwich or on fish tacos, I'm probably not ordering it. It wouldn't make my top 10.

Mouth says red snapper or mahi mahi but wallet says tilapia or salmon...but fish has become very expensive these days and I haven't bought any in ages. It's a shame because fish is good for you and tastes good. My wife refuses to eat farm-raised fish (I'm not too thrilled about it either) so our choices are more limited.

Yes. Fish has gotten stupid expensive. I only eat what I can catch or have given to me by fellow fishermen. Mahi, salmon, tilapia and catfish seem to be the only reasonably priced fish left.

I’ve been getting terrific swordfish at the NJ shore for years in the summer at about $13 per pound from Mike’s Seafood in OC or SIC. Just throw those on the grill for 3 minutes per side, and serve up with Jersey corn on the cob and sliced tomatoes with olive oil and basil from the garden. It’s a feast, and quite healthy too.

Grouper by far, firm sweet meat. Delicious.
Most counterfeited item on a menu, along with shark steak punched out to look like sea scallops. A really tasty fish that you might not have tried is Barramundi. Tastes similar to wahoo which is also exceptional.

I’m going to one of my favorite seafood restaurants tomorrow. For me it’s Halibut filet or whole Bronzino. What say you?
Not as colorful or exotic as many other answers but I’m going with fresh flounder.

So many yummy saltwater choices

Tilapia are raised in fish farms where they eat their own poop. Never eat this fish under any circumstance.

I had it in Australia where it is from. It’s great.

Swordfish, but like any fish, it has to be fresh. I don't eat fresh seafood unless I'm within a short distance of the coast.

I like the saying from one of the local places in my hometown of Portland
"The lobster that you eat today slept last night in Casco Bay"

Caught some wahoo off the outer banks some years ago.We took some to a restaurant and they prepared it as an appetizer. It was the best fish I have ever had hands down.Snapper and grouper are good also.Tautog are delicious but rarely on any menu.

For consistency's sake (on several levels), I'll go with a clown fish

Hogfish Bar, Stock Island. You and bru know it? Rarely off the menu there. My favorite chilling spot after a day under the golden hammer on the bow of a flats skiff. As non-Montana as it gets.
Haven't been for a couple of years, but Facia Luna in state college on football weekends Char Broiled Chilean Sea Bass was as good as it gets.

Fish caught and frozen on the boat is generally fresher than fresh fish which has to be shipped unfrozen. Just make sure you don’t let it thaw before preparing it.
