first of all, this thread is solely intended for critical thinkers. if you do not have a critical thinking club card, you cannot read this thread. I am teaching you critical thinking skills because there are too many people today who will cherry pick data to support their confirmation bias. I do not do that.

I have a degree in engineering from Penn State, which means I am much much much much smarter than people who do not. that's a scientific fact I learned freshman year, you dum dums!!

So on to our critical thinking exercise to address why I believe that a man silently kneeling on the sideline has offended so many good and true patriots of the greatest nation on earth!!! and I am talking about USA USA USA! you thought I meant Russia since they won an election this year. FOOLS!!!

After reading several different articles on the subject from the biased liberal media, I can only conclude (logically of course) that they are covering up the "Kaepernick effect" . . . because most of them cite reasons like the recent national election, the Cubs world series run, peak saturation of TV markets, rapidly evolving alternative markets, a lack of iconic players, reduction on the quality of play (especially in larger markets), and a host of more reasonable explanations for this down tick in viewership.

My superior critical thinking skills can only lead me to believe that these sensible and reasonable explanations MUST BE WRONG since they do not conform with my pre-conceived world view and outrage!!

Now I will post 17 links and obnoxious graphs from dubious sources to support my arguments. thus endeth the lesson!!

Well college game is better an they haven't left replay take over there game in college they know what a catch is. The constant replay an questioning of every detail of things that look oblivious to the fan is driving views away

Anyone can be a critical thinker if they choose to be. But intellectual cowards like the OP choose not to be, simply because it is difficult for their safe space worldview.

Painful to get beaten so badly, is it not?

I notice there is ignored content on this thread. will it be helpful to make me more blow-hardy to read??

It is completely up to you to read and fight for your position honestly, or you can be a safe space coward. So far, you have been a perfect example of "liberal thought" - lose any argument based on its merit and start deflecting and insulting (although some insults are OK).

Putting someone on ignore is completely acceptable when the other person is insulting, threatening, etc. But to do it because you are beaten intellectually is the sign of a weak person.

LOL!!! Hilarious Tener! Now all the screaming goofballs can just cut and paste this into their posts. Should save them a lot of time to go kick their dogs. Love it!

I guess the data also shows these same people are fine with domestic violence and drug use then, right? But once you kneel for the National Anthem - all bets are off...

In fact, that is what the data shows. If the fans were "Not OK" with the violence and drug use, then the data would likely show a gradual decrease in viewership from maybe 2008 or 2005 or whenever.

Perhaps people object more to being called racists than they do to a guy punching his wife out in an elevator or smoking weed. Not saying that's OK, or right, just saying that "it is what it is"

Agree. If people are tuning out because of that but not because of murderers and domestic violence then some people need to re adjust their moral compass.
There is a litany of reasons viewership is down and many of us listed them. If some refuse to consider them and remain myopic then that's on them.

Who really cares? If you like the NFL you should watch it. If you don't then don't.

No matter what the reason.

Yeah, except it isn't myopic if the reason is completely disproved by the data. "You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts"

Impact of various events upon NFL viewership:

2000: Rae Carruth wife murder.
2000: Ray Lewis allegedly murders someone.
2007: Mike Vick dogfighting comes to light.
2008: Plaxico Burress shoots himself.
2012: Aaron Hernandez murder.
2014: Ray Rice elevator incident.

So you're not interested in improving and refining your critical thinking skills?

He may or may not be. He is saying that he doesn't want to debate the reason behind the decline in NFL viewership. I'm completely fine with leaving that alone.

There do appear to be other people who want to both continue to debate the reason behind the drop in NFL viewership AND pretend they don't want critical thinking to be part of the debate. Well, that's not going to work.

You REALLY need to do something about that multi-color skin it should be all WHITE :) Critical enough for you ???

How about correlating the effect of CTE on the viewership?

Blutarski - 0.0 - as in none.

There are days I think I have CTE - I used to be able to drive a bunch of feeling, unthinking liberals into submission with only a few posts and some data.

Now, it takes much longer. Perhaps that's because, like Bernie Kosar, I have diminishing skills, but perhaps its because my antagonists are more irrational than before. I must say, the second theory would be consistent with the decline in the educational system.

It's going to be sunny and in the 50's this afternoon. That's why my NFL viewership will be down today.

It can be effective to use an allegation of racism when reason and thinking have failed. It has worked in the past.

I am not sure it will work as well going forward. I think people are tired of it.

Two things are damaging the NFL for me; 1) the injection of pre-game social justice lessons delivered to a captive, paying audience at stadiums, and 2) defenses not being allowed to play defense without penalty.

You're running neck and neck with Bushwood for the boards most critical thinker.

Not too "critical" of you to cite super bowl viewership, a yearly event that even non-fans watch because of the commercials. Not to mention that you don't have the ONE data point that you really need.... the 2017 Super Bowl.

The data is useful to rebut the theory that the events listed caused a decline in viewership. It is completely valid for that purpose. That data CANNOT be used to say that CK's actions had any impact. As an aside, I searched far and wide to find average viewership graphs that went further back than 2013.

Many of the liberals on this board could really benefit from this video. I'd post one of Feynman, but that's for scientists only, not the liberal arts majors that are my target audience.
