OT: Goodbye Flash, I mean Splash, Mountain

Of course it wasn’t made in 2020, so there’s that.

Agree, just because it may be sensitive to some doesn't mean it can't be watched, people do have a choice as to watch it or not, just like they have the choice to ride the ride or not.

So you see nothing that could be considered insensitive in the movie in the year 2020? Smh.

for a period piece no. I don’t with gone with the wind, blazing saddles, or any other period piece. I guess some people just have the capacity to sort through time and place and well others don’t.

If ya’ll can’t understand why it might not be the best idea to have a ride based on characters from “The Song of the South” at Disney in 2020 I’d suggest a rewatch of the ride.

I mean even if you don’t agree with the blm movement the ride itself is really cringe inducing imo.

I'm open minded, please point me to the "cringe inducing" parts of the ride. Just post some times in your linked youtube video for me to check out. Thanks!

Thanks.

The problem with this is that a Movie that I could care less about is now on my radar as something I should watch just to see what all the "fuss" is about.

What's next? "Snow" "White" and the Seven "Dwarfs"? No way do I want to be stereotyped if I'm a dwarf. It's not their fault they are short and goofy looking!!! :)

Mark Dambly is offended by Dopey!!! Hits too close to home

This guy is offended by your remarks...

I am shocked and hurt by your comment! Standing 5'4" I have suffered great discrimination, and your remarks calling someone "short" is hurtful and prejudical toward people who are vertically challenged ! I am demanding all steps be reduced to no greater than 4 inches in every public building, urinals must be relocated to ease use to no greater than 24 inches above the floor, the song "Short People" must be banned, all suv and 4x4 vehicles must be equipped with air suspension and the ability to kneel as to allow easy entrance , and anyone using the terms ...short, puny, runt, half-pint, little...shall be labeled as extremists radicals!

You want to talk about discrimination? I'm left handed and color blind. Remember the left handed desks at PSU? Neither do I. Do you understand what the traffic lights mounted sideways at Wildwood do to my driving when I first arrive? Try telling the cop that you were trying to figure out if the green is on the left or right. :)

And why stop at rides and movies, let’s amp up the book banning....Huck Finn has already been banned in many places, let’s just do away with all books that offend anyone. Let the outraged few decide what’s right for the many.

I'm shocked it took the recent BLM movement to get them to change it. That ride made me pretty uncomfortable last time I was there.

I’m legitimately curious here as to what aspect of the ride you guys feel is offensive. I get that the source material of Song of the South is problematic but unless you are already familiar with the film, I don’t see how the ride draws upon the racist elements.

Yes! I am color blind as well. Those sideways traffic lights are brutal!

OK. I give up. What am I supposed to be offended by? A bunch of faked, mechanical cartoon characters?

Actually, the ride seems to be over 10 minutes long. Who cares what the ride is? A ten minute ride in today's world is a pretty good deal !

Some people don’t seem to grasp that it’s not the specific ride (or statue, or movie), it’s the principle. Once you start changing things because of the mob, where does it end? They tore down a statue of Teddy Roosevelt and next they want to tear down Abe Lincoln. This isn’t about getting rid of things that offend someone, it’s about political power and it’s being handed over to them easily.

I find it funny that well to do white people are so up in arms over things that black people say they can't fully understand. If you're that guilty over your good lot in life that you need to get amped up about a mechanical bear and fox, you need help.

The silent majority of Americans who are getting sick of this stupidity need to start being more vocal or it will never end.

Its starting to feel like some of the more malicious folks in this movement are now having to research what they want torn down next. And all of us who are sick of this shit sit on message boards and make fun of it, but that's about it....I'm guilty too of course.

I guess when you believe everything is pervaded by systemic racism you tend to see it everywhere.
Bubba’s Watson’s garage door pull being the latest example.

I come back to this scene. The movie was made in 1983. You’d never put that in a movie today, but I still laugh at it. I must be RACIST. .

Actually, that's a very good point.

I like to watch old Westerns like Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel, and others. I used to watch some of the old TCM movies from the 30s, 40s, and 50s with my Mom and Dad when they were still around. And WOODSTOCK????? WHOA!!!! Talk about something that would be considered taboo in today's world.

Stuff that was considered normal when I was a kid, people would be arrested for now. That doesn't mean those old movies and TV shows should be banned. It's good to see how life was over half a century ago without it being whitewashed.

Funny thing is, for some reason, we all lived a pretty good life back then. In fact, my wife and I talk all the time about how blessed we are to have grown up back then instead of in today's world. We really feel sorry for the kids that are growing up today. Their life really sucks, and they seem to be intent on destroying their future.

I am not sure there is a Mel Brooks movie that could be made today, but that doesn't stop me from watching them and laughing the whole movie.

Enjoy them while you can because they’ll get banned once the thought police makes the decision.

That's the slippery slope fallacy. It's the argument you make when you really have no argument.

I know. It's horrible. I'm not sure how I will get through my day knowing that Splash Mountain will never be the same. My world is shattered.

Such broad minded thinking....amazing. Should we also base our views on human rights laws on how they would only affect us personally?

Guess I can check going back to Disney off my list.

You're that into old racist movies that disney changing a ride offends you so much that you won't go to disney? Nice virtue signaling. I doubt you could afford disney anyway.

There is no way you rode splash mountain then. It’s a bear, a rabbit, and a fox. What exactly made you uncomfortable? Lol

It's been a while since I've been to Disney (I honestly can't remember how long ago it was). After watching the posted video, I'm not sure what it was that made me feel uncomfortable. I guess I'll retract my statement.

We have been 3 times, so we can afford it easily - glad you don't even know me but feel you can speak about my financial situation. It isn't them changing the ride, it is the fact that they have had over 30 years to change it and never did.

I guess the only way to fix it is to hide history or change history like it never happened. That isn't going to fix racism.

There is talk of changing the national anthem. That is one way to ensure that I will not stand for it.

Given the presence of the internet and countless history books, do you think it is possible to change/hide history?

What historical facts are you most concerned about being changed/erased?
