I've frozen the screen on multiple pitches that are WAAAAYYYYY outside (in the opposite batter's box from overhead view!) that have been called strikes, and I don't think some of these umps understand where 'the letters' are.

Agree re some calls I saw over the last couple of weeks. Bad Umpping.

Flew in from SoCal to catch the games/spirits over the next five days.

Today's bus driver from Harrisburg to Williamsport said expect a great turn out tomorrow for the Pa. Vs Texas game ,,of fans from the local Pa. Area.

For me: one of my good Michigan friends has a grand son who plays for the Texas/ Pearland team. Thought I'd pop on by and root them on.

Best to all the youngsters.👍

Only watched a bit so not disagreeing. Having ump’d a couple years as a teenager, I can tell you little league catchers make it tough. They’re too far back, they don’t present a great target, they’re squirmy. Even true of many good ones at that age. TIFWIW.

Wait till you see Japan. Their catcher will be set up in the other batters box.

I do get tired of hearing how these umpires aren’t paid though. There’s no reason for that and it comes across as a cheap pr stunt.

If I was an ump my strike zone would be huge. Kids should be up there swinging, not looking for walks.

How dare you all! Don't you know they are volunteers and should NEVER be questioned on anything!!! The whole Little League is a joke. 12 and 13 year olds pitching from 46 feet??? It is a complete joke.

Isn't that why they are working little league games?

Big Padres fan here. Just went to DC last weekend to see them. Hoping to make a return trip to SD in the next couple years.

Check out some of the Local Restaurants of you can. Believe it or not many aren't busy this week because the locals stay away. South Side Restaurant and Pizza isn't too far from Stadium. The owner is a big PSU fan!

Just finished watching Texas(Pearland) vs Hollidaysburg Pa.

Final turned out 8-3 Texas.

I'm out here Monday so will miss that game.
Gotta couple of days to kill. Thanks re restaurant recommendation. Will see how things work out.

Re the Padres: my tennis partner a PSU grad and a Padres fan, Me not so much.
So down the road, and if I'm still around,
Pop on by and you can meet my good friend. His nephew played football at PSU, and finished his NFL career with a Super Bowl ring with the Steelers.

For the most part they are pretty good. You need to remember that from 46' a ball can cross the front corner and end up 6+" off the plate when it reaches the catcher. Also, LL catchers are typically further back from the plate than MLB catchers and this can also skew you perception. MLB catchers want to be as close to the plate as they possibly can to aid in framing pitches on the corners.

Thanks for info/explanation.
Was at a couple of games yesterday.
Sat in the upper stands behind the catcher.
Still couldn't believe some of the umps calls from what I thought they should have been.

And, a side note, popped on by Genetti's Williamsburg Pa. Bar for a bit, tonight.
Couple of folks walked by with " 1947" on the back of their T shirts.

Turns out I met, don't remember his name, yet , one of the gentleman in the group who was a starting pitcher for a Pennsylvania L L team that participated in the first L L Championship series.

Added to my fun , first ever time trip to Williamsport.👍

Wow and cool re the umping stats.
Am Not a real baseball fan.
Still, cool that today's hi tech world can produce such an umping "consistency factor for an umpire.

Thanks

If you like that, visit ‘fan graphs’ and pitching ninja. Pitching ninja make you wonder how anyone can get a hit today

Sign up. I’m sure you could do a far better job.

Ive noticed that these scorecards always favor the losing team in a blowout. I suspect that the umpire just wants to get the game over and starts to make calls to shorten the game and go home.
