I was watching multiple Lax games yesterday including PSU vs OSU. During each game I was watching (3 total) at some point they would explain how certain players were Canadian. Is this something that makes a difference in Lax? I have never heard different announcers from different game make the same comments about players nationality. Is this just something new to Lacrosse, or is it something like hockey where they known for the players they produce for a specific sport.

You can always tell a Canadian play, they always have two hands on the

Stick. They never go one handed

Re: You can always tell a Canadian play, they always have two hands on the

I can speak to this as a former D1 laxer that played with Canadians. In Canada, they play box lacrosse, which is quite different than the "outdoor/american" version. There are no long sticks, the field is smaller, the arenas have glass like hockey rinks lining the field and the ball can be played off the walls. The players tend to wear more padding, particularly the goalies, and the goals are much smaller. In all, it compares more to hockey than our version of lacrosse does. As it relates to players, Canadians tend to be "crafty" and able to operate in smaller spaces more so than American players. Not that their game is necessary better, just that they play the game with a certain flare. They tend to have better stick skills and are more accurate with their shots (hence years playing with smaller goals). A lot of colleges have a few Canadians on their teams and lacrosse players do find that noteworthy.

Canadian style of play is distinctly different from American style.....

There are always exceptions but generally Canadian players have grown up mostly playing box lacrosse which is lax in a hockey rink. Because of the lack of space, the emphasis is on stick skills in a crowd and quick, accurate shooting mostly either right handed or left handed but not both. American style is field lacrosse and although box in the states is becoming popular in some places, we concentrate on athleticism and dodging using both hands. Kids growing up in Canada playing box and hockey are tough competitors and are rugged skilled players. American kids are generally slick, skilled and great athletes with good lacrosse IQ's. Most good college teams have a few Canadian snipers who have gone to prep school in the states.
