OT - National Do Not Call List

And why not have a home phone? Of course I have a cell, but when I have an important matter to discuss with anyone I use a land line and I am never disappointed with it's clarity. I am handling an estate at present for a very wealthy client and he has specifically asked that I always call his land line with mine. Certainly if I could only afford one, it would be a cell, but if that's not an issue, why not have a land line home phone?

I got rid of my land line and replaced it with VOIP from Comcast. It has all the advantages of 911 as a land line but much cheaper. The only disadvantage is if your cable goes out--then you lose it.

If a home phone is necessary for business, fine. Otherwise, you're just throwing money away. We got rid of ours years ago, and I have a 3 line system.
Oh really?
How much does your system cost you?
You can get landline systems that are practically free.
Cell phone service is not.
For some people, paying more than nothing is "throwing money away".

I had a 3 line dial up system for the longest time, which wasn't cheap. The guy who owned the house before me was a contractor. The we went to Comcast and the bills kept going up and up. You don't get LD for free, you paid for that, you paid for 911, you paid user fees and taxes.

When hi-speed came out, out went the landlines and we kept TV and internet. Huge savings. We all have cell phones, what do we need a LL for? We don't.

You don't need a cell phone either.

Directv shows the incoming call number on the screen. If I don't recognize the number, I don't answer. I then block the number when time permits.

Anyone else get calls from Indian accented person saying they're from Microsoft/Windows support or something similar telling you they found bugs in your computer? I've tried all different things including just hanging up, threatening legal action, etc. For a while I would say: I don't have a computer. That would always stop them in their tracks and they'd hang up. I've also tried saying hold on a second and just put the phone down. What do you think is best. No matter what I try they keep calling. The reason I pick up is I'd really like to give it to them somehow.
Got the same call.
Told the person, I did not have a computer. Stopped them.

OK I'm sitting here reading through the various threads/posts and I get a call from a termite extermination company of which we have never been a customer. My wife put us on the National Do Not Call List years ago and periodically checks to make sure we are still registered. So is this list worthless? If not, is there some way to report these firms to do not honor the list, or is this simply a waste of time?

If you can identify the caller, you can sue for $500. If the call was recorded, another $500. (Not legal advice, but I think this is what the law says.)

I managed to identify a telemarketer who was harassing me with recorded calls for home security systems, and I got a lawyer to file a suit against him. However, his company went out of business before the lawyer or I could get anything. At least I destroyed the ass****s business; one less cockroach in the world.

Who the telemarketer or the lawyer? Just kidding....not really , but seriously you hired a lawyer for $500?

The lawyer expected to get them for multiple violations and, because the calls were recorded and failed to identify the caller, it's $1500 a pop.
It is a called a joke or a jab at the older posters on this board which you just confirmed so perfectly.
If it was a joke, it failed. If it was a jab, it missed. You keep trying though sonny.

TCPA lawsuits are legitimate-tell them not to contact you again-- if they do, contact a lawyer. It is minimum $500 per violation.
