Combined with the $7500 federal tax credit that’s potentially a huge discount on an electric car. Interesting news for NJ residents.

Pretty sweet deal. $7500 federal, $5000 state and zero sales tax. I see an electric vehicle purchase in my future.

Works well for a 2 car household. We will still keep an ICE vehicle for longer trips and use the electric vehicle for errands and commuting.

Given New Jersey's failing infrastructure and other problems, this doesn't sound like the most prudent allocation of precious taxpayer funds.

The beauty of it is the government never touches the money, it goes directly to the private companies, all of which are massive billion dollar companies.

Not in this case, the tax credit is being funded from an existing Clean Energy Fund that already has enough in it for the ten year credit program. It's funded by surcharges on utility bills.

Interesting. Government puts a tax on electricity for a Clean Energy Fund and then uses those funds to have people buy cars and purchase way more electricity......
Things that make you go hhmmmnnnnn.....

Question regarding nj. Do they have many charging stations? Not many here in md.

Yeah, trying to decrease use of fossil fuels. First you’re hearing of this?

And, the deal applies only to cars with a sticker price under $55,000, because lawmakers did not want to provide incentives for luxury car buyers.

Please tell me when we decided to allow government to manipulate our behavior through the tax code? We're becoming fools!

Is this a serious question? About 140 years ago. This isn’t new and it won’t ever change, because people a lot more important than you and me don’t want it to.
I get it. Even before the income tax was enacted, tariffs were common. I'm talking about the micromanagement of our behavior. That's not government's purpose.

What politicians say:

What really happens:

naa, the manufacturers and dealers will just jack up prices to take that free money.

Mulder and Scully are coming for you:

Things that make you go hhmmmnnnnn.....

We're going to have to impeach you now:

Government steals from the people to give to the top 1%? What else is new?

Yes, because luxury cars start at the completely randomly chosen low, low price of $55K:

And, the deal applies only to cars with a sticker price under $55,000, because lawmakers did not want to provide incentives for luxury car buyers.

It’s too bad this is available in NJ right as the Tesla Model 3 federal credit has expired. I could have bought the $40k Model 3 version for under $28k with no sales tax.

Anyone drive the remodeled Nissan Leaf? Impressions? It’s no Model 3 but the redesign is more attractive(normal) looking.

Question regarding nj. Do they have many charging stations? Not many here in md.

NJ has about 800 fast charging stations with that number set to double this year using funds from VW’s emissions cheating penalty.

But there is a big misconception about the need for public charging stations - many ICE owners believe that the number of public EV charging stations needs to approach the current number of gas stations for EVs to be similarly convenient to fuel. In reality, >90% of charging is done at home.

One way to this about it is to ask the question: how important would it be to me to have gas stations nearby if I had a gas pump at my house that filled my tank overnight, every night, at half the price or less?
