I am doing the 40 mile/32,000 bikes/ 0 cars Five Boro Bike Tour for the first time next month. If you have done this please share your experience and/or any suggestions or advice. Thanks

I can't believe the city allows this logistical dumpster fire to continue

Have fun!

It was crazy twenty five years ago so I can't even imagine what it must be like now. If your on a road bike take plenty of patch kits and be careful especially on the bridges.

I did this a couple of times. First if you are a serious biker and expect to go out and do a 40 mile ride, well, that won't happen. You'll ride 40 miles but it will be slow and a constant series of starts and stops. There are just too many people and too many logistical concerns to have everyone just go out and ride. But, I did it because my daughter lives in the city and it was a lot of fun for us. The one serious hang up I experienced each time is the ride back on the ferry. The first time we did it we hung around at the end of the ride festival for some food and entertainment. By the time we got to the ferry we stood for well over two hours to get on board. As it had gotten really cold by the end of the day and we had only our biking duds and a light biking jacket, we both froze our butts off waiting for the ride back. The second year we pretty much skipped the festival and probably only had to wait an hour or so to get on board. Check the weather and temperature forecast for the end of the day and be prepared to stand around in a jam-up of people for a good while at the end!
