Want to plan a 3 day getaway with someone special on the Jersey shore.

Looking for a resort type hotel, beachfront, no/few kids, luxury amenities.

Have looked onlne but everything seems really hit or miss. If anyone has first hand experience with a place, I'm all ears (or eyeballs).

Even though I've lived in SEPA for almost 30 years I've always gone south for beach vacations. Never really spent any time 'down the shore.

And it has to be the Jersey shore. Not Delaware, not Virginia....Jersey.

Revel is reopening as Ocean Resort Casino.

It's AC but there are nice beaches there and it is close to an even nicer beach.

Cape May. Very Victorian, and you will be better off in a B&B than a hotel.

From where you and your ladyfriend live (based on what you have mentioned), you can take 295 South to 55 South to 47/347 and avoid the Parkway madness. It's a little bit....rural (for Jersey standards), but it's a better ride. However, no matter which way you go towards the Shore on a Friday - you will hit traffic. So be forewarned.

Wildwood baby!! Right here!

+1. There are several good B&B options in Cape May, although most aren't technically "beachfront," at least not without a major road and/or barrier of cars, etc. in between.

Congress Hall (Cape May) and the Reeds (Stone Harbor) are the first two places that come to my mind given your description. I'd suggest a strong preference for the Reeds, which is waterfront on the Bay and has a pretty nice semi-private service set-up on the beach.

You might check out Icona Avalon Resort, but I concur with the recommendations for Cape May...

Virginia Hotel on Jackson Street in Cape May. They also have houses/condos you can rent space in. As someone else commented, Cape May is also full of B&B’s that would provide the sort of experience you are seeking.

The Reeds is really, really expensive. It's also on the corner of 95th and Third Avenue, so it's a bit of a ways to the beach. Not real long, but an 8 minute walk. It's really nice in appearance, although I find it snooty, myself. Even the valet parkers have an attitude.

Sh is only 3 blocks wide. Reeds is two blocks from ocean an they have golf cart to drive the customers.

Cape May is a beautiful spot but, IMO,. quiet verging on boring.

Wildwood is great. If you are between 18 and 26 years of age.

Avalon and Stone Harbor are a good compromise between the two above extremes. Agree with Lurker. The Wind Drift Hotel is a nice place.

Renting a house would be the better way to go if you had more people in your group and were willing to rent for a week. Maybe next time you go down to the Shore.

Any idea how much a B&B in Cape May goes for generally speaking. Danke.

Wildwood is a great family vacation spot. Has changed a lot and for the better. One should avoid senior week, however, at any beach locale.

I vote for Stone Harbor.

And the best property on Stone Harbor is Sisters of the Holy Child convent, right on the beach. No kidding, it's spectacular property. Only problem is, you probably need to be a priest or a nun to stay there.

Avalon/Stone Harbor as several others have mentioned (my fiancee and I got engaged there and our wedding is there this coming September so I'm a bit biased)...the Windrift Hotel, Icona Golden Inn, or a hidden gem is the Desert Sand Resort are some solid option...it's a great place with lots to do, and there will be lots of PSU fans!!!

Great to hear that. Have not been to Wildwood in several years. Can the same thing be said of Sea Isle City these days?

Atlantis Inn Bed & Breakfast. Ocean City NJ Block from the boardwalk.

Sea Isle is OK but not as nice as Avalon, Stone Harbor, or Cape May. The best thing about it is the no shower happy hour at the OD (Ocean Drive). Go see Secret Service play there from 4-8, either Sat or Sunday, I forget which. Ocean City is great too but there are no bars as it’s a dry town which is more family oriented but with the best boardwalk at the shore. Manco and Manco pizza followed by a Kohr’s soft ice cream cone is hard to beat. Take some Johnson’s Carmel corn back for some late night snacking.

Not sure about Sea Isle City. I usually either stay in Wildwood Crest or Cape May and then go down AC for a day.

That's a very busy intersection, lots of kids heading back and forth at night to Springers and other 96th st ice cream places. Check out The Dunes in Stone Harbor. I think they renovated not long ago. Quieter, cheaper and closer to beach. Wherever you stay if you go to SH, I'd throw my stuff in car and head to beaches on southern end. Quieter and nicer there

Flanders on Ocean City.

Is that place still open? I worked there 30 years ago in the summer and lived in the dorms. Fun times, especially sneaking into to the girls dorm via the fire escape to visit the GF.

Growing up, I spent all my summers in Cape May. I haven't been there in 3 years. It's nice but I'd agree sort of boring compared to other spots. If you're not looking it hit bars at night OC and Cape May are good spots, but more kids in OC.

It sure if your budget or pace, but Spring Lake has (or had when I left 20 years ago) several big, old hotels on Ocean Ave. Very upscale town with a laid back beach atmosphere, next to Belmar which is just the opposite.

Dude, I know Stone Harbor quite well. It's 3 blocks. 3rd to 2nd. 2nd to 1st. 1st to the Beach. The first two of those blocks are of the longer variety.

And whoop de do. They have golf carts to drive the filthy rich down to the beach, who are too lazy to walk. The fact that they need to provide these poor lazy souls with a golf cart ride just proves my point.

That property is worth millions and millions, and it's usually got about 5 nuns hanging around whenever I'm there. It will be interesting to see what happens to that place.

I think you've gotten some decent advice from the other posters. I would try to talk you into Lewes, DE, but you said no...

The Reeds is really nice. Definitely high end and expensive, esp in season. The Icona property is very nice. Based on what you describe, that would probably be my first choice. Icona is beachfront, Reeds is not.

For a dinner, book the Cafe Loren and/or Diving Horse in Avalon. Both are excellent. Cafe Loren is a nice break from the shore and my favorite place there. Highly recommended.

Please post on what you decide. We are in Avalon off and on, so if you wanted to meet up (trust me, we are fairly normal), let me know. No offense taken if you don't want to meet someone you know through a PSU internet site...

I've been going to Avalon/SH area for about 30 years. Even rented a house one year with the backyard facing the convent. I've never seen a living soul there. No joke, but we honestly think they leave for the summer, place seems so deserted.

Does that mean Henry's Home of the Pitcher is no more?

Shamrock. 7 beers for a dollar. Went one night while attending PSU and an alum was with us, so he had some money. He threw a $20 on the bar and they poured 140 beers and put on the bar for us. Took about an hour for 10 of us to finish them off. Ah, those wild, wild, Wildwood nights.

I would stay away from Asbury Park, Seaside Heights and Belmar. If money is no object I highly recommend a Bed & Breakfast at Cape May or a room at Long Beach Island.

And the best place to have a drink and watch the sunset on the island-off their bayside deck.......if you are into that sorta thing....
