Wish PSU would have a bowling team again

The club team is pretty good....but I wish they had varsity.

Overall though, bowling's popularity has rapidly declined over the years.

True, and the reasons are hard to pin down, but I'll spare you my thoughts as they may strike you as extreme.

You're right on the mark, gambit

All kidding aside, I think there are several factors. Mainly, the USBC's inability to attract youth/junior leagues, cell phones, and cost.

Yes, bowling is still much cheaper than many other sports. But, at $3.50 a game plus shoe rental, it makes the casual bowler (young and old) think twice about hitting the lanes on the average weekend. Surprisingly, equipment costs for regular bowlers haven't risen much in the past 15 years though.

If you think football and basketball are bad, bowling officiating is the most incompetent in the NCAA.

This thread makes me think of PSU's best walkon football player/bowler- Tim Mack from back in the early 90s. Guy made a lot of $$$ as a pro bowler after he left PSU.

PSU vs. Robert Morris was always a big, big match.
