OT: Realty check Pirates 13-16 vs. teams above .500

Specifically, I was interested in his take on Polanco. I'm thinking the Bucs might be happy he turned down their long term offer last year.

I've missed joining the conversation, just either been busy or on vacation the past couple months. Hopefully things will calm down for a while.

With regard to Polanco, I think he made a mistake not signing the long-term deal. However, I also think he'll eventually come around at the plate, so if I were the Pirates I'd still be offering the same deal they put out to him this spring.

He is still only 23 years old, and even Cutch didn't have his real breakout year until he was 25 (though he was certainly better in his 22 and 23 y/o seasons than Polanco...but it's probably unfair to compare every prospect to one of the top 5 players in the game). Even with the rough last month and a half, his WAR is positive at 0.5, projecting to a 1 for the year, which isn't bad for 23.

So I'm still optimistic that Polanco will be a very solid OF. I think in his prime (25-29) he'll be a .290, 15-20 HR, 25 SB, .370 OBP kind of guy.

I apologize if I have offended anyone. I want to make it clear, that I do not have anything against the Pirates. I think they are a young and exciting group to watch. I merely stated that I do not think they are a world series contenders this year, that is my opinion & I think we are all entitled to voice an opinion. Never did I make reference to small market teams/larger market teams & lets not forget mid markets. There are about 10 small market teams in mlb, most of which have performed much better than the Pirates over the last 20 years - that is fact, cruel as it may be. Small market teams are at a disadvantage to some degree, however, i believe effective decision making & maximization of resources are key elements to success in any business & I feel Pirate ownership & management had let their fan base & organization down for many years. Hopefully that is in the past. I think it is classless when people resort to name calling & an attack on someone's intelligence.

Can't disagree with anything you say in this post. The Pirates management team is very capable, which we both know wasn't always the case, and the ineptitude in that area is a thing of the past. FWIW, it was jj410 posts that drew and deserved the ire of most in this thread, and the conversation deteriorated from there. Peace.
