OT: RIP Legendary radio icon Don Imus...Imus in the Morning...

Listened to him for years growing up and never particularly liked him. He had some good talent around him that made his show enjoyable though.

I listened to him quite often on my drive commute in the 1990s, and he was not only funny, but he had an actual intellect. When he had people on his show like John McCain, Doris Kearns Goodman, Tom Brokaw, and many others, you could tell he was bright. He was also well-read.

Mike Breen calling in as Bill from White Plains was always a funny bit.
His sidekick, Bernie, referred to Imus's crew as "The Hole In The Lung Gang".

Breen was gold on that show. Delivered great lines with a completely professional, deadpan style. I can’t remember the exact line any more, but I remember the entire crew not being able to gather themselves after Breen threw out a line after Martina Navratilova played a Dutch opponent. Hilarious.

Actually that best moniker goes to hs.
For the less-educated crowd, correct.
"Imus was often compared to syndicated shock jock Howard Stern who appeared on WNBC also from 1982-85. Imus and Stern frequently appeared on each other's shows. Although Imus could not match Stern's audience in terms of numbers, advertisers were well aware of Imus' better-educated and richer demographic, often preferring him. "

Imus was very good with politicians. But his wife was really annoying and insisted on being on the show to push her own agenda. His TV evangelical character was the best. Billie Sol Hargus! I don’t care if it rains or freezes, long as I got my plastic Jesus, sittin on the dashboard of my car. Can I get an Amen?

This is plenty stupid saying Imus created more wealth from advertisers than hs. Take it back.

I just remembered him calling James Carville the “ Banjo Boy from Deliverance “ at some formal White House function.

It’s all about the demographic of the audience. Imus had the more affluent and older listener - Stern had the horny 18 year old.

Bababouey? I don’t think so.

It’s like you’re arguing against gravity. Check my link, Howard’s suitor would lose $240 million annually if he quit. Imus never played in that zone.

At one point, WNBC has Imus in The morning, Stern in afternoon drive and Soupy Sales in the middle. Imus was my guy from 1976. He talked me thru many long drives on the NJ Turnpike ( my commute was either an hour or three depending on the wrecks).

Stern was awesome when he had an actual show on WWOR .. When he went into the studio it was all " you're hot.. Can we see you naked"... Rinse, repeat.. Forever... ****ing boring. Artie was right about that big nose ****.

Despite a ****up here or there along the line, Don Imus and his crew were very entertaining. HS has had a remarkable run and hopefully many more years as well. Thank god we live in Merica where this type of entertainment never goes out of style.

Except, he didn’t say it. Bernard made the comment. However, his show, his accountability.
There were many waiting for an excuse to take him out - Al Sharpton, Andrea Mitchell for example.

Why even bother?

He helped WFAN survive in the very early years of all sports talk radio (all sports except for the Imus show in the morning). He was responsible for making the Mike and The Mad Dog afternoon radio show which also became must listen to radio in the NYC area. This was all long before ESPN radio I believe.
