OT: Suggestions for Philly hotels.

What are your dates? I can figure out which hotels are offered on Express Deals.

Suggestions for restaurants are welcome too, of course.
Just spent a night in Philadelphia with my wife. Stayed at Westin, dinner at Gran Caffe L'Aquil, then saw Diane Krall at Kimmel Center, followed by beverages at Monks Cafe. Restaurant was amazing and Kimmel Center beautiful. Hotel perfectly located.

Lived in Philly for 6 years. Id go with the Hyatt on broad street. Lots of great restaurants. One of my faves is a tiny Italian place on 2nd street caked la locanada Del ghiotine. Use to take my family there when they visited. Morimoto is great but really expensive. I lived right upstairs from fork. Great spot

Priceline's Express Deals have the following:

3.5 star in Center City East for $127, looks like the Doubletree.
4.5 star in Center City East for $130, looks like the Hyatt At The Bellevue.
4 star in Center City West for $114, looks like Club Quarters
3.5 star in Center City West for $81, looks like the Sheraton (I would pass on this one)

All these could be had for less if using Name Your Own Price.

Hotwire has a 3.5 star All-Suites Hotel in Center City West for $87. Looks like Embassy Suites.

Looks as if you were a little off your game, as I was able to book the Hyatt for $128 per. Thanks just the same.
The last time I was in the Bellevue was on January 1, 1980. A bunch of us got a suite for the Mummers Parade. That's all I remember.

Just curious Jim, What is the final per day charge with the additions of:
City tax; state tax; entertaient tax; right to enter city tax; union hotel workers tax, additional WiFi (us it or not); Philly Police Dept. donation; parking, city fuel and clean air tax....did I miss any?

Good deal, glad it worked out for you. We spent our wedding night there 15 years ago. Have fun!

A&L. Who was the longest banana in the bunch?[/QUOTE]
I'm not positive what that means, Step, but if it means what I think it means, how the hell would I know. :eek:There were fifty people in that suite and I assume I was inventorying the women:cool:. I assure you, I wouldn't describe my property as a banana. More like a half a pack of Rolaids.;)

Bananas come in "bunches"...there is always a top banana in the bunch. In the past, You, Bob92, woodypecker , etc., etc., would help me with my English comp., ya know, because many engineers can't grasp interaction with society using the written word. :p Letting you know, you and the others thought well. Homo sapiens rarely come in bunches.

You asked who was the 'longest banana', not the 'top banana'. There's a distinct difference, Step, if you (please) get my drift.:)

Hotel Rittenhouse, right? I was going to recommend it. Great location. Smith and Wollensky on the ground floor for a good steak and happy hour or late cocktails. Also, the Omni on Chestnut at 4th, right in the middle of Society Hill, and a few blocks from Independence Hall etc. There's also a Westin on 17th between Market and Chestnut. It used to be the Ritz until The Ritz moved to Broad St.

My go-to restaurant in Philly has always been The Saloon at 7th and Clymer in South Philly. I've been going there since my college years. My girlfriend took me there for my 21st birthday (still remember what I ordered that night - 18 oz strip, full order of aglio olio, sauteed mushrooms, salad - I weighed 165 wet with a metabolism on the burn setting). The Saloon isn't much from the outside but the inside is beautiful, full of antiques. If you go, call ahead and ask for a table upstairs. Not cheap but won't break the bank. Check it out.

P.S. Has a Philly mob history too. ChickenmanTesta would like it.:) I'm certain the longtime deceased, real Phil 'Chicken Man' Testa did many times.

Saloon is EXCELLENT atmosphere if you liked "the Sapranoes". Sorry Smith and Wolensky is gone from the Rittenhouse. That was our favorite.

What replaced S&W? I haven't been in the city for a year or so. Library Bar? I just looked at The Rittenhouse website. Looks like a lot has changed. The S&W bar was full of Philly power brokers (including Lubert).
