The Today show apparently conducted some kind of poll of "people in the TV industry" as to their Top 5 TV shows (i.e., series) of all time, and, in case you do not want to watch the Today segment linked below, here are the results:

1. The Sopranos
2. The Wire
3. Breaking Bad
4. Mad Men
5. Seinfeld

I guess I have some TV watching to do. I have never seen a single episode of Nos. 2, 3 or 4. Not sure I could put anything above Seinfeld. The list also betrays a real focus on the last couple of decades.

I'm guessing that Midnighter is gonna be all over this subject.

Seems a little heavy weighted to recent programming.

No Honeymooners makes that list irrelevant.

I don't know about Midnighter, but I will be. The wire would be atop of list, I think it was the best TV/Movie ever. Not only was it so good, I learned a lot too. BTW why don't we meet at 1:30.

Hmmm don't agree at all. No Mash? c'mon. and Mad Men was ok but nowhere nearly good enough for top 15 let alone top 5.
And I know its all "televison" but don't think its fair to have HBO/Showtime series included with regular TV. They can do so much more
with limited episodes, money and lack or restricitions.

In no particular order:
- Hill Street Blues
- Seinfeld
- Homicide
- Northern Exposure
- Mad Men

This list is a function of my age...If you would have asked me 45 years ago it would have included
- Mash
- The Brady Bunch
- Please, Don't Eat the Daisies
- The Monkees
- Laugh In

:)

I would include NYPD Blue as well.
Still not a fan of Mad Men. :)

Any list that does not include Night Court isn't worth posting.

Hill St Blues
Night Court

Seinfeld

1. Honeymooners
2. Cheers
3. MASH

I thought of The Andy Griffith show too. Great comedy that holds up well today. Don Knotts at his best- a very funny guy. The fact that the show survived after Barney left speaks to its popularity.

Hrumph! How about the Twilight Zone, Dragnet, The Lone Ranger, I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith, or Star Trek?

Night Court? What is a mention of Night Court without a look at Markie Post?

You've never seen the Wire or Breaking Bad? You need to remedy that. I love the top 3 on that list. TV shows are far superior now than in the past. The production, writing and acting is just flat out better overall. Shows like the Honeymooners and Mash may have been groundbreaking at the time, but can't compare to shows of today. Kind of like Pitt football.

Really have to disagree on MASH. It hit the wall pretty early and went on well past its expiration date. Its run was longer than the Korean War.

It went from an irreverent comedy to preachy schlock.

It got worse with every character change. Trapper > BJ, Frank > Charles, Henry > Potter, Radar > Army Klinger, Hot Lips > Margaret

I wish something like All in the Family were possible today. Every so often it's healthy to cut the crap -- break the back of political correctness and illustrate the stupidity of bigotry.

24
All In The Family
Honeymooners
Breaking Bad

Any list without the Honeymooners should be disqualified. And No other mention of 24?
Speaking of Kiefer Sutherland, it was hard to watch Designated Survivor last night and not having Jack Bauer get to the bottom of the attack
