OT: Troy Polamalu has informed the Steelers that he will retire ***

There are very few defensive players let alone that play safety that one can call a game changer. Polamalu was such a player.

He was still a game changer the past few years but for all the wrong reasons.

He is still one of the best ever to play defense and he modernized defense with LeBeau a little, though I doubt anyone can freelance the way he did in his prime.

It's mostly good for him that he is retiring. He was going to end up killing himself but he was a lot of fun to watch and I definitely will miss him.

Exactly what I was thinking.
Steelers are really going to have to draft wisely and I don't have a lot of confidence in that.
I know they've gotten some real diamonds in the rough in the past but I am not a fan of Tomlin's drafting.
INMO he's had too many high pick misses.

Good move on his part. He probably could have stuck around another couple of years with somebody and made some more paychecks but he was a shell of his former self the last few years. And the way he played and the amount of retired NFL players coming out with long term physical issues, it was good for his future also.

I'm happy for him. Bright guy who has had concussions among other things

Somehow, I think we will see him again on tv.
