Phillies and Nationals have a day-night doubleheader tomorrow; they clear the stadium between the games. Back in the day they'd have Sunday doubleheaders, two games for the price of one ticket. Or they'd start a game at 4:00 or so and then play two; they'd call them twi-night doubleheaders, I think it was. They stopped doing that, what, 15 or 20 years ago. Anyway, how long between the games? I can't remember.

My dad lived in Orange, NJ when he was a teen and he told me that he and his three brothers would take the subway to Ebbets Field, Polo Grounds, or Yankee Stadium and his dad, my grandfather, would splurge for tickets only if it was a doubleheader, LOL. It would be just the four brothers going together, you don't see that any more.

Games went by a lot faster then, just saying.

The Phillies used to play twi-night doubleheaders, which would begin at 5:35 PM. I believe it was 45 minutes between games. That was at the Vet. Today, nobody plays scheduled doubleheaders.

20 minutes.

I'm pretty sure they stopped holding twi-night doubleheaders at Connie Mack Stadium because nobody wanted to leave their cars out in that neighborhood for too long, lol. "Watch your car, mister?"

When I was a kid in CMS my dad and I would usually sit in the left field bleachers, at the wall. It was a dump but it made for some nice memories.

I'm fairly certain tomorrow's double header is back-to-back, one ticket gets you in to both. That said, the time between games should be minimal.

They are not clearing the stadium between games. This is an actual doubleheader. Like '67 said, one ticket is good for both games. One of the few good moves the Phils have made in recent years.

I remember the HR derby between games. Usually The Bull vs. someone

Really? I don't recall that, but that's beyond cool.
I was a season ticket holder between 1974 and 1983, Section 244, Row 6, Seats 3,4,5,6. I don't ever remember a homerun derby between games. I remember Karl Wallenda walking across the top of the Vet between games of a DH. I remember the Trammps playing between games.

I was there for the Great Wallenda, pretty cool seeing that as a kid.

Not sure what you mean EPC, tomorrow is a true doubleheader, second game starts shortly after the first has finished. It's a single game admission for both games. Just like the good ole days.

I must have been mistaken, but I thought I saw on CSN that it was two separate games. I defer to you on this.

No biggie, I double checked on the Phil's ticket site and confirmed. Smart move to give the fans a break. To even start the game today was ludicrous, especially with the rookie Morgan starting. He won't even go now. They had to recall Gonzalez from the Lehigh Valley for tomorrow.

On a better note, I saw Reading play last Saturday night. Crawford is going to be very good. Smooth shortstop, good bat. He made a major league play in the 9th inning, going deep into the hole and gunning down the runner at first. Phillies could be looking at a very good left side of the infield with JP and Franco.
Lively pitched that night. He PITCHED a very good game, changing speeds, in and out, up and down. He kept a good hitting team to two runs in 7 innings.

They started the game today? LOL, I was a little concerned about Morgan, he had a nice first start, sometimes it takes time for hitters to get to know a pitcher.

Yes, dbl headers were the norm on Sundays. Time between games 2-30 minutes; time to have sandwich & drink and a biological break. Of course Babe Ruth could have 3-4 hot dogs and a couple of bears between games.

Why are they gone?
Used to travel by train on Mondays; got extra rest.
Owners lost revenue.
Times changed.

Why games too long? Simple TV!

This is the kind of baseball talk fans thrive on. People forget the season's 162 games, that sometimes you need to look a couple years ahead. I remember when Schmidt came out, you could feel that he was going to be a great one, despite all his strikeouts.

Clear the stadium??? I think the 10-11 people that are at the "game" can go to the concession stands at one time. Does that count as "clearing" the stadium :)

Same day England played an NASL All Star team at JFK. That was a triple-header for me. I think we left at like 7 am and got home--late.
