My daughter and son-in-law will be attending the Van Morrison concert on 6/19 at Forest Hills Stadium in NYC. Has anyone seen him in concert. He is sharing the bill with Taj Mahal. Also what is Forest Hills stadium like as a concert venue? Thanks in advance.

I saw The Replacements there last year. Hands down one of the best shows I ever went to. First of all, it is super easy to get to by train, either Long Island Railroad or the E Train gets you there very quickly.

Then you get off and start your short walk to the stadium and you feel like you are in another world. Forest Hills is a BEAUTIFUL neighborhood that is designed to look like an English Garden neighborhood. There are Tudor Homes and buildings lining the treelined street that you walk to the Stadium along. There are some bars and restaurants for before and after as well.

As for the Venue itself, it is an old old stadium that to me, has lots of character. There is a beer garden with food vendors the set out in front and you can walk in and it is pretty laid back. You can get tickets to sit down or stand with everyone else. All seats seemed good. For the Replacements, I preferred to be down rather than up. Maybe the other way around for Van Morrison?

That sound was really good and if you have a nice night, it should be a great experience.

I lived down the street from the stadium in 73 and 74 after getting my bachelors from PSU. Get area, easy to get to, but never saw a concert there. The E or F trains have an express from Grand Central to Continental Ave in Forest Hills. Five minute walk to stadium.

Van Morrison provides inconsistent concert experiences. When he wants to perform, he puts on a GREAT show. But I have heard from others that there have been times when he comes out, does a short 1 hour set, doesn't talk to the audience, and leaves the stage.

I have heard similar things about Bob Dylan shows--great one night, terrible the next night. Hopefully your daughter catches Van on one of his best nights.

I have seen him twice, his sets tend to be short, around 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 mins. He's not very friendly. I saw him berate his bass player on stage the first show I went to. The second show I saw, was pretty flawless, but he did break out a rare number for an encore, and I think he was a little frustrated that it wasn't a perfect version.

Kind of amazing how many people not from the 60s early 70s gravitate to music and "still" performing artists from that period. The MUSIC was BETTER :)

I'm willing to bet his Forest Hills concert lasts precisely 90 minutes. At the 91st minute, if he is still onstage, he will walk out playing in the middle of the song. I've seen him twice and this has been his pattern. Still one of my favorite live performers.
