I was wondering what folks here, most of whom are likely to follow other teams and have a more unbiased opinion on the subject, think of the Golden State Warriors. The National media is full of praise for them, and the Bay Area media is essentially slobbering all over them. Pretty understandable.

I'm a fan of the team, and of Curry, but notwithstanding their 15-0 start, Curry's phenomenal ball handling and shooting, and the considerable depth of their bench, I would not put this team anywhere near Magic Johnson's Lakers or Larry Bird's Celtics. Not sure they could beat the Bad Boys from Detroit, either. Maybe on par with a few of those Bulls teams. I dunno.

Are the Warriors really good, or is it simply that there are presently few (or no) worthy competitors?

I think they are going to beat the Lakers and go to 16-0. Then who knows....

Monterey: Looking forward to the Dubs breaking the record on Tuesday night, especially given that it would be against the Lakers and Kobe Bryant. He's a great player, but I have never been a fan of Kobe. He's more of a me guy than a team guy. Wonder if he has any fans on this Board, given that he played his high school ball at Lower (Upper?) Merion.

I only tune in to see if they show Ayesha Curry...

Wait, you think the Bad Boy Pistons were better than the mid 90s Bulls?
Yes. If we are talking about the Bad Boys in their prime vs. the Bulls in their prime. I'll grant you that there's some room for debate. Not arguing against the greatness of MJ, but his surrounding cast did not come anywhere close, IMO, to matching the guys Isaiah had around him. MJ had Scotty and it dropped off considerably after that.

All I know is Curry is unbelievable.
'Ro has said that Curry is another Maravich, and I have to agree. Nobody was as fun to watch as Maravich, and Curry comes the closest. Plus it's physically impossible for someone to have a quicker shot than Curry, it's just not possible, only Jerry West is comparable, imo. He has Maravich range as well, Downtown Freddy Brown range. (Watching Fred Brown when he got hot, well, that was always a treat.) Just an incredibly pleasing performer in every way.

I really don't know what to say regarding the Pistons vs. Bulls. Bulls were clearly better, and I don't know how that's in dispute.

Curry? A true shooting guard in every sense. Runs the perimeter....almost impossible to stay with...and when you leave him open even for a second....bang.

People really do underestimate how tough it can be to guard a guy who can shoot the lights out AND run forever. It's just exhausting...a big man or tough inside player. You can fight for position, and help defense can cheat toward him....a guy that can run the perimeter and hit the 3...good luck.

Wonder if he has any fans on this Board, given that he played his high school ball at Lower (Upper?) Merion.

It was Lower Merion. There is an Upper Merion High School, but they are a non-entity in boy's basketball in SE PA. Lower Merion has had several amazing teams, a few that have won PA state championships in their Class, including the one with Kobe.

I can't speak for this board community with regards to Kobe. When he was in HS, Kobe was pretty popular in the Philadelphia area, in part because his dad, Joe Byrant was a star at La Salle College (a smaller school in Philadelphia, that's had some great BB teams over the years), and later played with the Sixers. His nickname was Jelly Bean, so Kobe was known to many in the Philadelphia area as Kobe Bean.

His popularity has decreased since high school. He had quietly promised La Salle that he was going there for college, and they were left high and dry when he elected to enter the NBA draft. His popularity went up a bit during the early part of his NBA days, despite his playing for the Lakers (next to the Celtics, probably the NBA team that is most disliked by Philadelphia area fans). It took some big hits with some comments he made before the NBA All-Star game held in Philadelphia (or was it for comments made after the game, where he was booed by the Philadelphia fans; can't remember if he was booed for the comments or booed in general which caused him to make some negative comments).

Anyway, enough about Kobe Bean.

The Warriors (who were the Philadelphia Warriors before they moved to CA in the early 60s), are a joy to watch. Curry has amazing accuracy, is so fast, and when he's on is virtually impossible to shut down (in part because he doesn't have a single move; he can drive, score off the dribble, score when standing still, go left, go right, etc.). In addition, he plays a great team game for a superstar, as he's happy to provide assists, and unlike Pistol Pete, who was mentioned earlier in the thread, he actually plays defense.

Have been a huge Curry fan ever since I saw him play for Davidson. His energy level as well as his shooting accuracy is pretty incredible.

Haven't seen the Warriors play this year but it wouldn't bother me at all if they broke Da Bulls record.

Was never a big MJ fan. A great player, but an awful individual off the court. His speech at his induction into the NBA HOF is one of the most pathetic I've ever seen. He had a wonderful wife and treated her like shit with his Tiger Woods level of womanizing. Sorry, I could go on and on with Da Bulls' current self-proclaimed gift to the world, Mr Rose, but I need to re-focus.

I expect once the playoffs begin (and I start watching pro ball after college ball is over) I'll see a lot of the Warriors and Mr Curry!

They are a classy and fun to watch team. Luv that they took down the Cavs in the Finals last year. Not their fault the Cavs are injury prone. As a Celtics fan, I luv they shut up Doc "Benedict Arnold" Rivers, who didn't have the character to stay thru a rebuilding in Boston.
