brief review, no spoilers in first post.

LOVED this film, IMHO the best of the current DCEU. Gal Gadot embraces her inner warrior, and the action scenes are amazingly kick ass. But there is also a lot of humor and heart in this film.

semi spoiler . . . this is almost wholly a stand alone film. No surprise cameos from anyone else in the DCEU, no post credit scenes. And I think that works brilliantly. And though the film is almost 2-1/2 hours long, the pacing is very consistent.

Some co-workers went to see it and really liked it.
I know that the very early word was it was a mess but most everyone I've seen and talked to liked it.
Only criticism a few have said is they felt it was too long.

Good. I am so OVER the post credit scenes. LOL

well we had this discussion with another poster here (ahem, MIDNIGHTER!) and I felt that this talk of the film being a mess was a lot of industrial sabotage from the Marvel fan boys.

The film is long but doesn't FEEL long . . . there are a few lulls to build plot or characters, but they all pay off

Really happy when early word on actual screenings was super positive. Love the character and casting - best part about BvS IMO. Can't wait to see it!

Went to see it yesterday with my wife and adult son. We loved it. When it was over, we were surprised it had been over two hours. We went to a 2:40 showing and the theater was packed. Nice to see a super hero with no qualms about killing her foes. WW is a total bad ass.

one of my only (minor) complaints is that I felt Ewen Bremner was tragically under used.

I loved her approach to combat. She wasn't a giant wussbag like Superman

Something I haven't been able to tell from the previews...is it set during WWI or WWII?

I'm seriously considering taking my 6 year old daughter to see it? Is that completely inappropriate given its pg13 rating or is the content still fairly reasonable? I'm not a prude, just curious if the themes are too adult to explain to her, or lean more towards the cartoonish realm. Obviously all parents are different so best guesses are appreciated. TIA.

Without getting too spoilery, is her origin in the film the Zeus version, or the clay version?

great question, but not an easy one to answer.

the film does a nice job of integrating both versions, and not really resolving which is correct. it's left for the film viewer to draw their own conclusion.

I can live with that. One version is an obvious explanation for her power and skill above other Amazons, the other is more interesting though. I think I know how they probably handle this, but it's one of the best things about her because it's so unique.

you may be able to figure it out. alas, there really isn't any great way for me to get any more specific without giving away a big scene in the movie.

Nah, this is good enough. Will likely see the movie this weekend!

Jill Lepore, who wrote The Secret History of Wonder Woman, is not a fan of the Zeus version, which was not put forward by DC Comics until 2011.

I'm not either, and it's sort of out of place in DC continuity (which doesn't really have any Greek/Nordic mythology presence, unlike Marvel).

While there is very little blood/gore... however there is some very violent themes and very tragic action scenes (picture a WW I battlefield). I would not recommend it for a 6 year old (I have a 5 year old grad daughter and no way I would take her).

yeah I would tend to agree. some war trauma, and some "sexual" banter that might be difficult to explain to a 6 yr old

that's a tough one. a few years older would be fine.

some specifics:

  • language - no problem at all
  • sex/nudity - there is a little bit of kissing, and some innuendos that more takes place. As for nudity, there's a scene where Wonder Woman walks in on Steve (the 1st male she had even met), who has just gotten out of the bath. There's some innuendos and jokes there, and a wide-screen shot where Steve is covering his privates with his hands
  • violence - this is where there may be an issue. Part of the movie takes place in a trench warfare battlefield of WWI. It's more realistic, and more graphic, than was probably required, though I think the director was trying to offer an accurate depiction. There's also some violence in an earlier scene

FWIW, there were quite a few kids that were 6 or younger in the audience when I saw the movie. I didn't notice any of them having issues during the movie, or their parents removing them from the room for any scenes.

Saw it last night. Brilliantly done. Gal Gabot was stunning, cinematography and scenery was awesome. Definitely the best DCEU movie by a long shot.

I went to see it last night and have 1 question..... > Why does she age from childhood to adult, but then does not age at all once she gets to be an adult. The movie begins in modern day where she is working as some sort of art historian in Paris. In the opening scene she is the exact same person/age as she was during the movie which takes place in the WW1 era. So from about 1918 until today --- 100 years --- there is no aging. But at the beginning of the movie she ages from a 6-7 year old child. Why does she age as a child but then stops aging as an adult ??

And Ares appeared to have aged. Why did all the Germans speak English? Why didn't Steve have a British accent? How did 4 guys commandeer a plane full of poison and there were only a few Germans on board? How is it that no one was punished for disobeying her Mother, the Queen? They didn't seem to age on the island. Why didn't they tell Diana she was a God? Because Ares were find her faster, huh? That makes no sense. Shortest grieving ever over her aunt. Enjoy the movie and turn off your brain. Otherwise you will drive yourself crazy.

It's a movie - based on a comic character

we really aren't told how much time has elapsed between when she was a child, and when we first see her as an adult. could have been hundreds of years. Her mother didn't age, her aunt didn't age.

A half hour too long.
